Senior Expert in Off-Grid Electrification

Overview

NTU International is preparing a proposal for the European Union funded project "Technical Assistance to the Energy Transition Support Program in Benin (ATE)", aimed at promoting innovative energy access solutions, particularly through off-grid electrification and autonomous systems in rural areas. The program supports decentralized energy solutions to accelerate universal electricity access and reduce territorial inequalities.

Role Objectives

The Senior Expert in Off-Grid Electrification will assist in strategies and projects focused on decentralized electrification in Benin, supporting technical implementation and operational frameworks to enhance rural energy access.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate the execution of off-grid electrification programs and autonomous energy solutions.
• Provide expert technical guidance on individual solar systems, solar kits, hybrid setups, and community-based solutions.
• Assist in developing strategies and operational frameworks for rural electrification.
• Support technical, economic, and institutional studies related to off-grid projects.
• Advise beneficiary institutions on operational models, financing options, and maintenance of off-grid systems.
• Promote private sector involvement and PAYGO business models.
• Contribute to the preparation of technical documentation, market analysis, and strategic recommendations.
• Engage with private operators, investors, and technical/financial partners for project dialogue.
• Support capacity building initiatives for public institutions and local operators.
• Monitor the performance and impact of off-grid electrification projects.

Educational Qualifications

Master’s degree (Bac+5) in Energy, Electrical Engineering, Electrotechnics, Renewable Energies, or related fields.

General Professional Experience

• At least 10 years of professional experience in the energy sector or rural electrification.
• Proven track record with decentralized electrification or energy access projects.
• Experience working on projects funded by major international donors such as the EU, World Bank, AfDB, AFD, or GIZ.

Specific Professional Experience

• Minimum 7 years in off-grid or autonomous electrification solutions.
• Demonstrated expertise in individual solar systems, PAYGO models, or rural energy infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of economic models and regulatory frameworks for decentralized electrification.
• Experience conducting market studies, project structuring, or private sector support is advantageous.
• Work experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially West Africa, is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with Benin or the ECOWAS region is an asset.

Language Skills

• Fluent French (oral and written) at minimum C1 level.
• Professional proficiency in English is a plus.
