Job description
Role overview
This is a senior editorial leadership opportunity for a Canada-based professional who can sit at the crossroads of financial journalism, media relations, and content strategy. The role is designed to help shape how consumers understand mortgages and real estate by turning complex market movements and rate changes into clear, timely, and credible guidance.
You will contribute both as a hands-on editor/writer and as a strategic owner of editorial quality, standards, and workflows. The position also includes a public-facing advisory element, with opportunities to represent the brand in interviews, video content, and industry commentary. It is remote-first, offers substantial autonomy, and involves close collaboration across teams in a fast-moving, data-driven environment focused on better financial decision-making for consumers.
Core responsibilities
- Serve as the main mortgage and real estate expert for external communications, including media interviews, commentary, and other public-facing opportunities.
- Write, edit, and publish strong, accurate, and fast-moving content across articles, landing pages, newsletters, video scripts, and social channels.
- Convert market trends, rate updates, and industry changes into practical, consumer-friendly editorial pieces.
- Keep key mortgage content current, relevant, and optimized for search visibility.
- Work closely with mortgage and brokerage teams to bring live market insights into editorial planning and output.
- Set and maintain editorial tone, style rules, and governance across every content format.
- Own editorial calendars, planning, and workflow coordination to support both timely coverage and long-term content goals.
- Review and approve work from writers, freelancers, and contributors to ensure consistency and quality.
- Analyze SEO, traffic, and engagement metrics to spot content opportunities and areas for improvement.
- Lead sponsored content production and act as the main point of contact between the editorial team and external partners.
Requirements
- 6 to 10 years of experience in editorial, journalism, or content leadership roles within digital media, fintech, or financial services.
- Strong background in personal finance content, with especially deep knowledge of Canadian mortgages and real estate preferred.
- Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling ability, with the skill to make complex financial topics easy to understand for a broad audience.
- Experience creating content in several formats, including articles, landing pages, newsletters, and video scripts.
- Good understanding of Canadian mortgage products, lending structures, and real estate market behavior.
- Solid knowledge of SEO, including keyword research, on-page optimization, and performance analysis.
- Hands-on experience with analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, or similar platforms.
- Proven ability to coordinate freelancers, editors, and cross-functional stakeholders in a high-volume content setting.
- Comfort representing a brand publicly in media, video, podcast, or similar spokesperson-style formats.
- Strong planning, organization, and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Preferred exposure to financial journalism networks, AI-assisted content workflows, and GEO/AI search optimization methods.
Benefits
- Competitive compensation matched to experience and the Canadian market.
- Remote-first setup with the flexibility to work from anywhere in Canada.
- Flexible work hours to support balance and autonomy.
- Full health and dental coverage with no employee premium contribution.
- RRSP matching to support long-term savings.
- Annual budget for learning, training, and professional development.
- Regular virtual and in-person social and team activities.
- Chance to influence a highly visible editorial voice in Canada’s financial space.
