Job description
About the Company
OLAPLEX is a prestige hair-care brand known for leading innovation in its category and for a mission centered on improving the health of hair over time. The company values a collaborative culture and the idea that strong teams are built through meaningful connections.
About the Role
OLAPLEX is looking for a highly creative, detail-focused Senior Creative Packaging Designer to shape the brand’s physical presentation in the marketplace. This person will oversee the packaging journey from early concept work through final execution for both primary and secondary packaging, balancing brand expression with practicality, cost, sustainability, and manufacturing needs.
Reporting to the Vice President of Creative, the role works closely with Marketing, R&D, Product Development, Packaging Engineering, Sourcing, and external production partners to turn ideas into commercially viable packaging and retail experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop fresh, brand-aligned packaging ideas, layouts, and structural solutions that stand out across salon, retail, and direct-to-consumer channels.
- Create mockups, renderings, and prototypes in digital and physical formats to evaluate usability, unboxing impact, and shelf presence.
- Prepare production-ready artwork and mechanical files, with careful attention to dielines, typography, color fidelity, and labeling rules.
- Explore and recommend premium, eco-conscious materials, finishes, coatings, and production methods that reduce environmental impact.
- Work across functions with sourcing, product development, and manufacturing vendors to confirm design feasibility, structural strength, and production quality.
- Guide and support junior designers by giving thoughtful feedback and helping maintain strong creative standards.
- Design retail-facing visual merchandising elements that improve product placement, customer engagement, and in-store brand impact.
- Conceptualize structural displays, custom product glorifiers, and seasonal promotional builds that enhance storytelling at point of sale.
- Define precise dimensions and structural footprints so secondary packaging fits correctly and performs well across varied global retail shelf setups.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, or a similar discipline.
- 7 to 10 years of professional packaging design experience, ideally in CPG, luxury, or lifestyle brands.
- At least 3 years designing for retail environments, including knowledge of shelf merchandising, visibility constraints, and shopper behavior at point of sale.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating advanced typography, layout, color usage, and understanding of three-dimensional form.
- Solid knowledge of print production methods such as offset, flexography, and digital printing, as well as dielines, folding cartons, corrugate, and rigid box construction.
- Excellent presentation and communication abilities, with confidence in pitching and defending design choices to internal stakeholders.
- Experience creating effective structural concepts for secondary packaging, retail displays, and custom glorifiers.
- Strong spatial reasoning and the ability to work within dimensional, footprint, and fit constraints in retail fixtures.
- Applicants should be authentic, accountable, and eager to learn and grow, even if they do not meet every listed qualification.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual base salary for this position is $135,000 to $150,000, plus eligibility for an annual bonus. Actual pay will depend on qualifications, relevant experience, skill level, functional expertise, certifications or professional licenses, and geographic location.
- Competitive pay package.
- Flexible paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and adaptable work schedules.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage contributions for employees and their families, plus company-paid employee life insurance and optional additional life and disability coverage.
- Parental leave of up to 18 weeks for birthing parents and up to 10 weeks for non-birthing new parents.
- Roth and 401(k) plans with 100% matching on the first 4%, vested immediately.
- Professional development reimbursement to support career growth.
- Access to the Bond Builder DEI committee and a culture that values gratitude and inclusion.
- 20 free products each year, plus a friends-and-family discount.
