Job description
Role overview
This opportunity is for a Senior Consultant in Professional Services with a partner organization, and the partner handles the hiring process and all next steps. The role is based in Ireland and is fully remote within Europe. It blends deep PostgreSQL and database expertise with modern data engineering consulting, serving enterprise customers as they modernize, migrate, and improve critical data platforms.
You will work closely with clients in a highly customer-facing setting, where technical depth and the ability to explain complex ideas clearly are both essential. The work spans PostgreSQL advisory services, cloud data architecture, and emerging AI/ML-enabled data solutions. Projects are typically complex and business-critical, with a focus on reducing operational risk, enabling scalable analytics, and modernizing legacy environments. This is a hands-on consulting position with strong ownership and direct customer impact.
Accountabilities
- Review existing PostgreSQL and legacy database setups, then prepare detailed recommendations, runbooks, and modernization plans.
- Drive migration initiatives from Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL into PostgreSQL, covering schema changes, data movement, and application logic remediation.
- Architect and deliver high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions using tools and technologies such as Patroni, EFM, and PGD.
- Optimize performance across queries, configuration settings, and infrastructure layers to improve stability and efficiency.
- Plan and implement backup, recovery, and database upgrade approaches, including PITR, WAL archiving, and version lifecycle management.
- Help customers build current-generation data platforms, including pipelines, warehouses, and analytics stacks in cloud environments.
- Where relevant, incorporate AI/ML capabilities, LLM-based workflows, and RAG pipelines into client data ecosystems.
- Support pre-sales efforts by contributing to professional services proposals and defining delivery scope.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of experience for Consultant level, or 5-8+ years for Senior Consultant level, in database engineering, DBA responsibilities, or data engineering consulting.
- Strong command of PostgreSQL administration, tuning, replication, and high-availability architecture.
- Practical exposure to Oracle and/or SQL Server, especially in migration projects.
- Good SQL knowledge along with a clear understanding of database design and data modeling principles.
- Hands-on experience with Linux and scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or similar tools.
- Experience with at least one major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, plus modern data tools like Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks.
- Strong Python and/or Scala capability for data pipelines and automation tasks.
- Working knowledge of data warehousing and modern analytics architecture.
- Exposure to AI/ML frameworks or data science libraries is considered a plus.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical topics to a range of stakeholders.
- English fluency is mandatory; additional European languages are advantageous.
Perks and benefits
- Fully remote working arrangement within Europe with flexible scheduling.
- Chance to contribute to enterprise-scale, mission-critical data transformation work.
- Exposure to advanced PostgreSQL, cloud, and AI/ML technologies.
- Significant autonomy and ownership across client engagements.
- Strong learning and career growth in a rapidly evolving data and AI environment.
- Collaboration with experienced international engineering and consulting teams.
- Access to learning and development support for technical upskilling and certifications.
- Opportunity to work on high-impact engagements in regulated and large enterprise settings.
