Senior Buyer - Procurement

Role overview

Hernon Manufacturing is hiring a Senior Buyer to help improve procurement performance across its Adhesives/Raw Materials and Equipment/Dispensing Systems businesses. This position suits a seasoned purchasing professional who can oversee orders end to end, coordinate closely with vendors and internal partners, keep ERP information accurate, and contribute to sourcing and process improvements in a busy manufacturing setting.

Key responsibilities

• Handle the full lifecycle of purchasing activity, including requests, purchase orders, supplier confirmations, promised delivery dates, overdue lines, receiving problems, invoice mismatches, and PO completion.
• Stay in contact with suppliers to verify commitments, work through issues, record risks, and raise urgent matters when needed.
• Collect, review, and document quotations with details such as price, lead time, freight and payment terms, minimum order quantities, quote validity, and supplier commitments.
• Assist with sourcing work, RFQs, alternate supplier searches, item cross-references, equivalent part identification, and category management support.
• Keep SAP/ERP and approved procurement systems current and accurate by maintaining vendor data, item data, supplier catalogs, manufacturer references, lead times, MOQs, pricing notes, units of measure, and purchasing notes.
• Partner with Production, Quality, Lab/R&D, Receiving, Finance, Engineering/Equipment, and leadership to protect production flow and reduce purchasing-related risk.
• Contribute to procurement reporting, supplier scorecards, documentation compliance, savings and avoidance tracking, expedite monitoring, and continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• An associate degree or bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, Accounting, Engineering Technology, or a similar field is preferred.
• At least 6 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, production planning, or supplier management.
• Manufacturing experience is required or strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to manage purchase orders from request through final closure.
• Strong proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• SAP Business One experience is preferred.
• Working knowledge of purchasing master data, item records, vendor records, supplier catalogs, part setup, category assignments, and ERP data accuracy.
• Strong communication skills for dealing with suppliers, internal teams, and leadership.
• Comfort working in a fast-moving manufacturing environment with urgent priorities, supplier delays, and incomplete requests.
• Preferred exposure to chemical, adhesive, equipment, component, direct material, indirect/service, or regulated material procurement.
• Preferred experience with supplier scorecards, RFQ comparison, cost savings records, vendor risk, contract tracking, COA/COO, shelf-life, ISO 9001 purchasing controls, Smartsheet, Power BI, dashboards, workflow automation, or approved AI tools.
• Preferred SAP Business One item master maintenance, supplier catalog setup, data cleansing, alternative vendor research, equivalent items, cross-reference/offset parts, and manufacturer reference work.
• This is a senior individual contributor position reporting to the Procurement Manager.
