Job description

Role overview

Powerdata Group Consulting is looking for an accomplished Senior Business Analyst to contribute to major digital transformation programs within a complex government setting. The position is based across ACT, NSW, VIC, and QLD in a hybrid arrangement. A current Baseline security clearance is mandatory.

You will join multidisciplinary agile teams working on user-focused digital services and be involved across the entire delivery lifecycle, from discovery through to live support. The work calls for deep stakeholder engagement, strong business analysis expertise, and the ability to turn business goals into practical technical outcomes within an established architecture and delivery framework.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to uncover and document business and user needs.
  • Analyse current-state and future-state processes, identify gaps, and map workflows, data movement, and business processes.
  • Partner with solution architects to keep solutions aligned with enterprise architecture and target-state design.
  • Convert ideas and requirements into user stories and product backlog items, including sequencing and dependency management.
  • Support delivery through Discovery, Alpha, Beta, and Live stages.
  • Assist with acceptance testing and solution validation activities.
  • Help configure and support SaaS platform implementations so they meet the documented requirements.
  • Create business-facing documentation that explains technical solutions in plain, practical language.
  • Lead workshops, stakeholder conversations, and collaborative design sessions.
  • Ensure solutions reflect accessibility expectations, including WCAG 2.1 AA, and user-centred design principles.
  • Collaborate closely with designers, developers, and researchers to produce joined-up outcomes.
  • Coach junior analysts and design team members, helping strengthen team capability.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated business analysis experience on large transformation initiatives.
  • Strong capability in eliciting and documenting requirements.
  • Proven experience with gap analysis, including current-state and future-state assessment.
  • Ability to map business processes, workflows, and data flows.
  • Experience creating wireframes and conceptual models.
  • Ability to translate complex business needs into workable implementation solutions.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build relationships across business teams, technical specialists, and senior leaders.
  • Comfort working in collaborative, multidisciplinary environments.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments, preferably SAFe.
  • Exposure to digital delivery tools and practices, including Azure DevOps boards, backlog management, and CI/CD pipeline awareness.
  • Experience writing and maintaining user stories, PBIs, and acceptance criteria.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Strong organisation, prioritisation, and time management abilities.
  • Ability to influence decisions and support senior-level decision-making.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Adaptable, with the ability to learn new systems and domains quickly.
  • Desirable: experience in Commonwealth Government or other regulated environments.
  • Desirable: exposure to enterprise SaaS platform configuration.
  • Desirable: familiarity with Human-Centred Design methodologies.
  • Desirable: experience supporting or contributing to design systems.
  • Desirable: working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
  • Desirable: experience collaborating with user researchers, interaction designers, and digital service teams.
  • Desirable: ability to produce strong visual artefacts such as journey maps, prototypes, and concept diagrams.
  • Desirable: experience mentoring or coaching junior team members.

Ideal candidate profile

  • You are a senior, delivery-oriented Business Analyst who enjoys fast-moving agile digital environments.
  • You can bridge business and technology effectively.
  • You are comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery work.
  • You work independently while still contributing strongly to team outcomes.

Working arrangements

  • Hybrid working model.
  • Onsite attendance is mandatory for at least 2 days per month, with additional onsite presence possible depending on business requirements.

Success measures

  • Requirements are clearly defined, validated, and aligned to business objectives.
  • User stories and backlog items are well written and effectively managed.
  • Stakeholders have strong confidence in the engagement and delivery process.
  • The role contributes to scalable, user-centred digital service delivery.
