Job description

Overview

Joining the Science team at Uber means tackling intricate, practical challenges without always having a straightforward guidebook solution. This role involves deciphering large datasets to yield actionable insights that influence marketplace effectiveness and user experience. The position suits a technical investigator who can unravel complex, data-driven problems in a dynamic, high-pressure setting, appreciating the imperfect nature of real-world data and persevering to translate hypotheses into production-ready solutions.

As a self-driven professional, you will manage ambiguity and shifting priorities to ensure data products are reliable, scalable, and based on robust statistical foundations, making a significant global impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize data to conduct comprehensive analyses across various business areas to support product development.
  • Design and analyze experiments to derive meaningful conclusions.
  • Carry out time-series analyses to assess impact and identify trends statistically.
  • Develop models that enhance understanding of user behaviors and forecast future cohort performances.
  • Create regular dashboards and reports to communicate outcomes and monitor important metrics.
  • Extract data from warehouses, validate models through back-testing, and compare performance results effectively.
  • Build end-to-end solutions addressing challenges in funnel optimization, user engagement, and user experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Information Management, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a closely related field plus at least one year of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in R or Python programming languages.
  • Experience with SQL and database querying.
  • Knowledge of experimental design methods such as simulation and A/B testing.
  • Strong statistical skills including descriptive statistics, correlation, regression analysis, and confidence interval estimation, with the ability to develop relevant performance metrics.
  • Competence in defining KPIs using SQL, R, or Python.
  • Expertise in quantitative modeling, including machine learning, time-series forecasting, and causal impact assessments.
  • Ability to create data visualizations and dashboards using R, Python, or Tableau.

Compensation & Benefits

The annual salary range for this role is $161,000 to $197,000. Eligible candidates may also participate in Uber's bonus program and access various benefits. Details are available through company resources.

Work Arrangements

This role primarily supports remote work. However, employees are expected to spend at least 50% of their time in-office unless full remote work is approved. Certain positions, such as those at greenlight hubs, require full-time onsite presence.

Equal Opportunity & Accommodations

Uber is committed to equal employment opportunities, considering all qualified applicants without discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, race, disability, veteran status, or any protected status by law. The company also supports accommodations for applicants with disabilities or special needs upon request.
