Job description
About the Role
The Lunch Bag provides nutritious hot school meals to children throughout Ireland and is looking for dependable cover staff to support schools when regular team members are unavailable. This is a practical, fast-moving role for someone who enjoys variety, meeting new people, and being part of a service that supports children every day. The work is tied to the school calendar, so you will be off when schools are closed.
What You’ll Do
In this position, you will act as the on-site representative in different schools as needed. Meals are prepared centrally in Nenagh, County Tipperary and delivered to schools, where you will take over the final stage of service. If cover is not required on a particular day, you may visit schools to complete basic checks and audits.
- Arrive at different school environments with a positive, confident approach.
- Place pre-packed meals into ovens and heat them to the required temperature in line with HACCP rules.
- Remove meals from ovens and deliver lunches to classrooms.
- Keep stock levels sufficient for daily service.
- Follow the cleaning plan and daily work schedule.
- Record temperatures and cleaning activity accurately.
- Refill fruit bowls in classrooms.
- Distribute snacks to classrooms.
- Carry out school audits to support compliance with EHO requirements.
- Complete HACCP and manual handling training, which will be provided.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal person is adaptable, cheerful, and able to move quickly between tasks without losing attention to detail. You should be comfortable representing the company in schools, working calmly under pressure, and interacting well with staff and children. Previous experience with food service or children is welcome but not essential.
Working Pattern
You must be available from Monday to Friday between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm. Daily hours will vary depending on each school’s needs. The role follows the academic year, so you will work approximately 183 days annually.
Requirements
- Full driving licence.
- Access to your own vehicle.
- Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 14 kg.
- Comfortable using stairs where lifts are not available.
- Able to read English and follow instructions accurately.
- Capable of heating meals carefully and working quickly while remaining composed.
- Willingness to learn on the job; relevant experience is helpful but not required.
Pay and Benefits
The role offers a weekly wage of €580, along with reimbursement for expenses related to using your own car. You will also be supported by a friendly team and work in a rewarding school setting during term time only.
