Role overview

ABM Industries is hiring a dependable school custodian to handle routine cleaning and upkeep in a K-12 school, college, or university setting. This position is well suited to someone beginning their working life or re-entering the workforce, including candidates with limited experience or education.

What you will do

• Keep assigned spaces clean and orderly, including classrooms, corridors, restrooms, locker rooms, offices, and stairways.
• Sweep, pick up waste, remove spills, and mop floors across the assigned areas.
• Inspect waste bins regularly and empty them whenever needed.
• Use cleaning chemicals and powered equipment correctly to avoid damage to flooring and fixtures.
• Report minor repairs or larger maintenance issues to the lead cleaner or manager.
• Build positive working relationships with clients, teammates, shift coordinators, supervisors, and managers.
• Sort, gather, and place recycling into the appropriate containers.
• Dust and clean desks, chairs, tables, furniture, fixtures, doors, sills, floors, ceilings, and walls.
• Polish durable surfaces such as woodwork and stainless steel.
• Clean tabletops, chairs, and equipment in food service areas.
• Relocate cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment when required, using hand trucks where helpful.
• Wash interior glass, windows, partitions, and mirrors with the proper tools and cleaning solutions.
• Handle outdoor and seasonal tasks such as sweeping walkways, raking leaves, cutting grass, and removing snow.
• Keep restrooms clean and polished.
• Follow all company, client, safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures.

Requirements

• You must be at least 18 years old.
• No prior experience is required; training will be provided on the job.
• No high school diploma, GED, or college degree is necessary.
• Previous customer service experience is preferred.
• One year of comparable work experience is also preferred.
• Candidates with military backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
• Military Occupational Specialty Codes mentioned for reference include 92S, 92Y, LS, 3051, and 3F1X1.
