Maintenance Assistant (all genders)

Role overview

In this position, you will support the maintenance team so that the conveyor and material-handling systems remain reliable and available at all times. Using your basic technical knowledge and hands-on practical ability, you will carry out assigned technical tasks safely and responsibly for colleagues and managers.

Your day-to-day work will be part of a collaborative environment built on appreciation, mutual respect, and openness. Together with your team, you will contribute not only to daily operational targets but also to the ongoing improvement of material flow processes.

What you will do

• Carry out minor repairs and practical maintenance work on equipment independently and with care.
• Perform inspections on technical installations and replace consumable materials when needed.
• Keep machinery and equipment clean, contributing to dependable performance and longer service life.
• Stay up to date on procedures, workflows, and technologies, and keep building your technical know-how over time.
• Work supportively with your teammates, ask where you can help, and act as a positive role model through high-quality execution of your tasks.

Working conditions and company context

This role is based in Gießen, Hesse, Germany, at a new highly automated logistics site that is currently being prepared for opening. The facility covers 130,000 square meters, is operated by Zalando, and is designed for up to 1,700 employees. From summer 2026 onward, customers in Germany and neighboring markets will receive parcels from this location.

The broader logistics network serves more than 50 million customers across over 25 European markets. The company currently operates twelve logistics sites in seven countries, including five sites in Germany with around 6,000 employees from more than 100 nationalities.
