Role overview
Greens Supermarket is looking for a Scanning and Checking Team Leader to oversee the accuracy of inbound receiving and outbound order verification activities. The role focuses on making sure products are scanned, checked, documented and released correctly, while maintaining high standards of food safety, efficiency and accountability across warehouse operations.
Inbound scanning
- Match every incoming item with the relevant purchase order and supplier delivery paperwork.
- Confirm product codes, item descriptions, quantities, batch references and expiry dates.
- Flag any shortages, excess deliveries, damage, wrong items or pricing mismatches.
- Check that chilled and frozen goods arrive within the required temperature range.
- Make sure inventory is logged accurately before it is moved to put-away.
- Separate and label any damaged, rejected or non-compliant stock.
- Keep the scanning and receiving area tidy and well organised.
- Pass unresolved variances to the Receiving and Invoicing Lead.
Outbound order checking
- Compare picked orders with invoices, pick lists and customer instructions.
- Verify product codes, quantities, batch numbers and expiry dates.
- Apply First Expiry, First Out checks before goods are dispatched.
- Spot missing, wrong, damaged or short-dated products before shipment.
- Ensure chilled, frozen and ambient items are staged in the correct manner.
- Sign or stamp orders once they have been checked and cleared for dispatch.
- Log picking and checking mistakes and escalate recurring issues.
- Follow any customer-specific handling or packing instructions.
General duties
- Operate handheld scanners and warehouse systems with care and accuracy.
- Keep all receiving, checking and scanning records complete and current.
- Support stock counts, expiry-date inspections and warehouse investigations when needed.
- Work in line with food safety, hygiene, health and safety requirements.
- Handle goods carefully to avoid unnecessary damage.
- Maintain strong standards of accuracy, output and ownership of tasks.
- Provide assistance to other warehouse teams when operations require it.
Performance expectations
- High levels of scanning and checking accuracy.
- Lower numbers of inbound and outbound discrepancies.
- Fewer picking and delivery errors over time.
- Correct recording of batch details and expiry dates.
- Orders completed within the required dispatch timeframe.

Requirements
- Prior experience in a warehouse, stock control, scanning or order-checking role is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications and handheld scanning tools.
- Strong focus on detail and accurate number handling.
- Ability to identify differences in products and quantities.
- Good communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- Comfortable working under pressure and meeting dispatch deadlines.
- Background in food distribution or fast-moving consumer goods is an advantage.
