About the Role

Yalelo Zambia seeks a dependable and meticulous Sausage Packer to join our warehouse and production crew in Lusaka. The role focuses on efficient and precise packing of sausage products while maintaining daily production goals and adhering to stringent quality and food safety protocols. The work environment is fast-paced, requiring attention to detail and consistency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Package sausage items following daily production schedules and volume targets set by the supervisor.
  • Operate and supervise packing line machinery such as fillers, mincers, and mixers to ensure continuous operation.
  • Confirm product weights meet required tolerances prior to sealing and shipment.
  • Examine packaging seals and integrity, removing defective products before quality control checks or delivery.
  • Keep precise logs of daily production volumes, rejects, and equipment downtime.
  • Notify the Production Supervisor promptly of any equipment issues, shortages of packaging, or quality problems.
  • Strictly follow all food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety practices including HACCP and GMP standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the packing area aligned with sanitation routines.
  • Work closely with team members and supervisors to solve workflow challenges and achieve production targets.
  • Engage in stock rotation activities and assist with general warehouse tasks as needed.

Performance Metrics

Success is evaluated based on two equal-weight key performance indicators:

  • Achieving daily sausage production volume targets (50%).
  • Maintaining correct pack weights and seal integrity to avoid quality issues (50%).

Working Environment

  • Warehouse setting with cold-chain production conditions.
  • Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE) throughout shifts.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
  • Certificates related to food production, warehousing or similar are advantageous.
  • Prior experience in food production, meat processing, or FMCG packing is preferred.
  • Basic numeracy skills for weight verification and record management.
  • Ability to stand for long durations and handle moderate physical loads.
  • High level of detail orientation and adherence to food hygiene and safety standards.
  • Effective communication abilities and teamwork mindset.
  • Physical fitness suitable for cold and chilled work environments.
  • Direct experience with sausage production tasks is desirable.
  • Willingness to work in shifts.
