Job description
Role overview
This position combines sales-floor support with delivery duties in an automotive retail setting. It is an entry-level opportunity that supports DIY customers, commercial buyers, store operations, and inventory handling. The role requires working knowledge of store systems, basic automotive concepts, and common parts, along with the ability to source merchandise from stores, hubs, PDQ, and outside vendors. It may be offered as either part-time or full-time, and fleet safety certification is preferred for the salesperson track and required for the store driver track.
Salesperson responsibilities
- Deliver a strong customer experience for DIY shoppers in person and over the phone
- Work toward individual sales targets while contributing to store-wide sales results
- Perform DIY support services such as battery installs, battery testing, and wiper blade installation
- Keep merchandise presentation and store operations aligned with standards
- Handle inventory workflows such as truck put-away, cycle counts, shootouts, and back-stock management
Store driver responsibilities
- Transport parts safely to commercial customers when needed
- Prepare and stage orders for customer pickup or delivery
- Collect returns and cores from customers
- Distribute weekly and monthly sales flyers
- Manage daily collection activity for credit accounts
Shared responsibilities
- Keep the store clean, including floors, bathrooms, shelves, and the parking lot
- Support stocking work such as truck unloading and back-stock organization
- Use store tools, inventory systems, and delivery systems correctly
- Maintain accurate parts location and replenishment processes
Skills and success factors
Success in this role depends on safe driving and navigation, effective communication, a friendly customer approach, and the ability to use delivery boards, point-of-sale tools, parts lookup systems, and inventory software. Strong parts knowledge, automotive system knowledge, and the ability to use testing and diagnostic equipment are especially valuable for DIY service work.
Required capabilities
The job calls for clear English communication, with Spanish considered an advantage, plus the ability to read safety instructions, operating guides, maintenance manuals, parts catalogs, and similar documents. Basic arithmetic skills are needed for measurements and calculations using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. The schedule can include various days, evenings, and weekends.
Preferred experience and credentials
For the salesperson path, 2 to 3 years of proven sales success in a varied retail environment is preferred, especially if it involved strong customer service. For the driver path, automotive parts experience is preferred. A valid driver's license is required for the store driver role, and fleet safety certification is required.
Physical demands
This work is largely performed while standing or walking. The employee must be able to speak and hear clearly and use hands and fingers for handling and feeling objects. The job also requires reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Frequent lifting or moving of up to 50 pounds is expected, and occasional lifting or moving of up to 100 pounds may be required. Required vision includes close, distance, color, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment
The role is usually performed indoors, though some tasks require going outside and working in changing weather conditions, such as when installing batteries or wiper blades. The job may also involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, heights, chemicals that may be toxic or caustic, electrical shock risk, explosives, and vibration. Noise levels are generally moderate.
