Road Safety Officer

About the Role

Shellharbour City Council is seeking a Road Safety Officer to drive meaningful road safety initiatives across the Shellharbour Local Government Area. In this role, you will work with internal teams and external partners to plan, deliver and review programs that support safer travel and better community wellbeing.

The position focuses on turning road safety data and local insights into practical actions. You will assess crash trends and risks, contribute advice on transport-related projects and strategies, and help shape initiatives that have a real impact on the community.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Transport Engineer, you will be responsible for coordinating, promoting and evaluating road safety programs for the local government area. You will also provide guidance on road safety matters relating to Council-led designs, projects, actions and strategies.

This role requires regular liaison with a range of stakeholders, including community organisations, schools, media representatives, the Local Transport Forum, Transport for NSW and the NSW Police Service.

What We Are Looking For

The preferred candidate will bring a combination of technical understanding, community engagement ability and strong delivery skills. You should be comfortable interpreting data, building relationships and managing initiatives from planning through to completion.

Additional Requirements and Conditions

This is a permanent full-time position working 35 hours per week with access to flexi-time. Standard hours are Monday to Friday, although some weekend work may occasionally be required.

The starting salary range is $92,894 to $102,562 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience, plus 12% superannuation.

Applicants must hold a current NSW Driver’s Licence and a valid Working with Children Check clearance. A Working with Children Check is required for paid work in line with the Child Protection (WWC) Act 2012.
