Job description
About the organisation
The Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) is the national body in Australia focused on education evidence. Its work centres on producing high-quality research, making that evidence easy to access, and improving how it is used across Australian education.
The organisation brings together people who are enthusiastic about evidence-informed policy and practice for schools and early childhood services. The culture is collaborative, inventive, and mission-driven, with an emphasis on agile thinking, teamwork, and cross-functional work across research, policy, and practice.
Role overview
As a Researcher, you will help create, translate, and share education research and policy analysis that can be understood and used by educators and policymakers. The role also contributes to the development of quality standards for education materials, along with stakeholder engagement and the preparation of written and multimedia outputs.
What you'll do
- Support the scoping, planning, and design of education research projects aligned with the annual research agenda.
- Carry out data collection and analysis across multiple research projects, working with other researchers and using qualitative and/or quantitative methods.
- Prepare research outputs that help school and early childhood practitioners adopt evidence-based approaches.
- Plan and deliver dissemination activities that strengthen the reach and impact of AERO’s research across the education sector.
- Work with external stakeholders to keep projects and outputs high quality and impactful.
- Handle administrative tasks related to research governance, stakeholder coordination, and the development and rollout of research products.
Requirements
- A research qualification in education, social sciences, data science, or a related field.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex information for different audiences.
- Comfort using Excel and survey tools such as REDCap or similar platforms.
- Prior experience as an educator or teacher, or strong familiarity with school environments.
- Exposure to quality assurance or quality standards work is helpful, though not mandatory.
- Background in adult learning, training, or professional development is an advantage.
Eligibility
This opportunity is open only to Australian citizens, permanent residents, or applicants with unrestricted work rights in Australia. AERO also welcomes applicants who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Employment terms
This is a full-time temporary contract running until 29 January 2027.
The role is flexible location and can be performed from home anywhere in Australia.
Applications are not accepted from agencies. The successful candidate will need to pass a National Criminal Record Check and hold or obtain a current valid Working with Children Check.

Application requirements
Applicants must submit a CV, a cover letter explaining their interest in and suitability for the role, and a short response of about 150 words describing a project where they worked with stakeholders and produced written material for different audiences, including their approach and the result.
