This permanent position is based at the National Innovation Hub, Teagasc Moorepark, Fermoy, Co. Cork, with a 6-month probation period. The anticipated start date is January 26th, 2026.

Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive, collaborative, and motivated Research Technician to join our Research and Innovation team. This role will involve supporting both in vitro and in vivo research activities. Our research strategy focuses on identifying, developing, and utilizing novel bioactive compounds to enhance health and well-being across all life stages. The Research Technician will play a crucial part in conducting world-class research, advancing our understanding of human nutrition, and contributing to the creation of innovative nutritional products for our consumers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Researchers in driving disruptive innovations.
  • Conduct biochemical, analytical, microbiological, and cell-based in-vitro and ex-vivo assays using ingredients and finished products.
  • Provide support for animal maintenance and the execution of animal studies, including sample collection and analysis.
  • Ensure data integrity and contribute to data analysis processes.
  • Participate in research dissemination efforts, such as preparing project reports, contributing to peer-reviewed publications, writing popular articles, engaging on social media, and presenting at local and international conferences.
  • Assist with the procurement of laboratory consumables and the creation of project-related purchase orders.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Manager to implement sustainable practices, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), health and safety policies, and other assigned duties.

Key Expertise and Skills

  • Possess a B.Sc. in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Health Science, Biomedical Sciences, Food Science, or a related field. An M.Sc. would be a significant advantage.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant laboratory experience is required.
  • Demonstrate a background in biochemical, analytical, microbiological testing, and functional food research.
  • Experience with probiotics, pathogens, human cell culture, and simulated digestion is highly desirable.
  • Exhibit strong analytical skills in a laboratory setting and proficiency in troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability in data analysis, with competence in Microsoft Office Suite and statistical software such as GraphPad, SPSS, or Python.
  • Showcase excellent teamwork capabilities, including consulting, collaborating, and fostering relationships with key partners.
  • Possess strong organizational, communication, collaborative, time management, and motivational skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, proactivity, and autonomy in work approach.
