Job description

Position Overview

The National University of Singapore's Department of Chemical Engineering invites applications for a Research Fellow specializing in membrane technology. This role centers on advancing membrane solutions geared toward carbon capture, bridging experimental work and commercial scalability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design and production of membrane modules tailored for gas separation processes.
  • Create hollow fiber membranes through spinning techniques specific to gas separation.
  • Expand membrane and module fabrication capabilities from the lab setting to pilot-scale operations.
  • Develop and construct experimental setups to evaluate hollow fiber membrane systems for gas separation.
  • Conduct performance assessments of membranes targeting carbon capture applications.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing entities and suppliers to prototype and transition designs into manufacturable products.
  • Enhance both experimental protocols and simulation workflows to support membrane scale-up efforts.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Doctorate in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Deep understanding of membrane materials, chemistry, and mechanisms involved in gas separation.
  • Proven experience in hollow fiber membrane spinning and module fabrication focused on gas separation.
  • Competence in membrane testing and performance characterization techniques.
  • Preferably experienced with polymer-based or crystalline materials such as MOFs, ZIFs, or COFs.
  • Additional expertise in scaling up membrane technologies is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated, meticulous, and adept at independent and team-oriented research in dynamic environments.
  • Comfortable engaging in hands-on experimental work and iterative problem-solving.
  • Strong critical thinking skills aimed at developing tailored solutions for technical challenges.
  • Proficient in English, including both written and verbal communication.
