Job description
Position Overview
The National University of Singapore's Department of Chemical Engineering invites applications for a Research Fellow specializing in membrane technology. This role centers on advancing membrane solutions geared toward carbon capture, bridging experimental work and commercial scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the design and production of membrane modules tailored for gas separation processes.
- Create hollow fiber membranes through spinning techniques specific to gas separation.
- Expand membrane and module fabrication capabilities from the lab setting to pilot-scale operations.
- Develop and construct experimental setups to evaluate hollow fiber membrane systems for gas separation.
- Conduct performance assessments of membranes targeting carbon capture applications.
- Collaborate with manufacturing entities and suppliers to prototype and transition designs into manufacturable products.
- Enhance both experimental protocols and simulation workflows to support membrane scale-up efforts.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Doctorate in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Deep understanding of membrane materials, chemistry, and mechanisms involved in gas separation.
- Proven experience in hollow fiber membrane spinning and module fabrication focused on gas separation.
- Competence in membrane testing and performance characterization techniques.
- Preferably experienced with polymer-based or crystalline materials such as MOFs, ZIFs, or COFs.
- Additional expertise in scaling up membrane technologies is advantageous.
- Self-motivated, meticulous, and adept at independent and team-oriented research in dynamic environments.
- Comfortable engaging in hands-on experimental work and iterative problem-solving.
- Strong critical thinking skills aimed at developing tailored solutions for technical challenges.
- Proficient in English, including both written and verbal communication.
