Role overview
The Research Analyst will support the IT-Non-IT Workgroup (ITW) within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) by carrying out research, analysis, and reporting tasks that help guide decision-making. The position contributes to both funded and unfunded IT and non-IT efforts and works closely with stakeholders across the VHA environment.
This role involves regular coordination with VHA IT governance groups and supports the delivery of important projects by turning data and research findings into clear recommendations, presentations, and documentation.
Core duties
- Gather and study information for IT and non-IT initiatives, then convert the findings into practical insights.
- Analyze complex data sets to support recommendations and decision-making.
- Draft detailed reports, briefing materials, and leadership updates for ITW leads, stakeholders, and VHA executive management.
- Help build project plans, timelines, deliverables, and key performance indicators for ITW-related initiatives.
- Coordinate meetings and briefings, including communication and logistics support for stakeholders.
- Keep research records, project updates, and meeting minutes organized and traceable.
- Support the movement and governance alignment of both IT and non-IT projects tied to VHA strategic priorities.
Minimum qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Research, Data Analytics, Information Technology, Healthcare Management, or a similar discipline is required.
- At least 3 years of experience in research and data analysis is expected, preferably in healthcare or government settings.
- Previous experience handling acquisition and budget work with a federal agency is mandatory.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and judgment skills are needed.
- Ability to turn raw data into insights that support strategic choices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, along with data analysis tools.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including presenting to senior leaders.
Preferred background
- Experience with IT and non-IT funding processes in the VHA or other federal organizations is an advantage.
- Knowledge of New Service Request (NSR) and Multi-Year Programming (MYP) procedures is preferred.
