Job description
Role Overview
This is a specialized part-time consulting role for professionals with a strong background in biology and related life sciences disciplines. The work centers on reviewing scientific material, assessing biology-focused outputs, evaluating experimental approaches, and producing clear, evidence-based written feedback.
The opportunity is designed for remote project work involving biology task development, scientific evaluation, interpretation of life sciences data, review of research documentation, and careful execution of structured review assignments.
Core Work Areas
You may be asked to contribute across several biology-oriented review streams, including scientific assessment, laboratory workflow evaluation, data interpretation, and feedback preparation.
Biology Research and Scientific Review
- Examine biology-related content covering molecular biology, cell biology, experimental methods, laboratory processes, and scientific logic.
- Check biology outputs against the source material, research setting, methodology, and review standards.
- Help evaluate research summaries, technical write-ups, experimental situations, biological analyses, and scientific reports.
- Spot gaps in assumptions, weak methodology, unclear reasoning, and the expected outcome of a biology review.
Experimental Design and Laboratory Workflow Support
- Assess scenarios related to experimental planning, lab research, molecular and cellular techniques, sample handling, and data interpretation.
- Review biological data outputs for correctness, consistency, readability, and alignment with scientific principles.
- Support structured review of lab notes, experimental findings, method write-ups, charts, calculations, and technical records.
- Write concise explanations that justify biology conclusions using the source information and verifiable criteria.
Life Sciences Data Review and Structured Feedback
- Create or review tasks and deliverables based on real-world biology and life sciences workflows.
- Provide feedback on scientific accuracy, reasoning quality, data interpretation, and technical communication.
- Support review processes involving model outputs, biological reasoning, research-style problem solving, and lab context.
- Maintain accuracy, consistency, and professional judgment throughout the work.
Ideal Background
Strong applicants will typically have hands-on or professional experience in biology, molecular biology, cell biology, life sciences research, laboratory research, experimental design, biological data analysis, or technical reporting.
Helpful subject areas include molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, microbiology, biochemistry, neuroscience, ecology, evolutionary biology, biomedical science, and related life sciences fields.
You should be comfortable working with research summaries, lab notes, method descriptions, experimental results, data analyses, and technical reports, and should be able to work independently in a remote, project-based setting.
Education and Experience
A degree or professional background in biology, molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, neuroscience, biomedical science, life sciences, or a related scientific discipline is useful.
Graduate-level research, laboratory experience, scientific publication work, or applied life sciences experience is especially relevant. Equivalent practical experience in biology research, biological data analysis, lab workflows, or structured scientific review is also acceptable.
Preferred Extras
- Experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques, experimental planning, lab research, data analysis, scientific modeling, technical writing, or publication-related workflows.
- Exposure to PCR, cloning, cell culture, microscopy, sequencing, protein assays, immunoassays, wet-lab methods, or life sciences instruments.
- Experience preparing or reviewing technical reports, research summaries, biological datasets, experimental protocols, lab-style workflows, or scientific documents.
- Comfort using spreadsheets, statistical tools, Python, R, MATLAB, laboratory information systems, or biology-specific software.
- Strong attention to detail in research-intensive, data-driven, and documentation-focused environments.
Why This Role May Suit You
- Use biology and life sciences expertise in structured remote project work.
- Contribute to scientific review, technical evaluation, biological data analysis, and research workflow assessment.
- Take on flexible assignments that fit a biology or laboratory background.
- Apply scientific judgment in an evidence-based review environment.
- Benefit from remote work with competitive hourly compensation.
Contract Terms
- This is an independent contractor engagement.
- The role is fully remote and offers flexible scheduling.
- The commitment is part-time and depends on project availability.
- Pay ranges from $65 to $95 per hour based on expertise.
- Payments are made weekly through Stripe or Wise.
- Assignments may be extended, shortened, or changed depending on scope and performance.
- The work will not require access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
