Job description

Role overview

This position focuses on relationship management for small business clients. The main goal is to deepen existing client connections, bring in new business, and support growth across the assigned portfolio.

What you'll do

  • Build, manage, and grow relationships with a portfolio of small business customers.
  • Create and carry out sales plans to win new clients and strengthen current accounts.
  • Use consultative sales and business development approaches to drive market growth.
  • Develop internal and external referral networks that support continued business expansion.
  • Generate appointments and uncover new opportunities through focused sales activity.
  • Maintain a business plan and relationship strategy aimed at improving customer retention.
  • Identify prospects and recommend additional products and services based on client needs.
  • Earn client confidence through strong rapport, reliability, and responsive support.
  • Understand the local market and develop relationships with key centres of influence.
  • Provide accurate answers on business banking products and services.
  • Offer financial solutions that align with customer objectives and business goals.
  • Resolve concerns directly when possible, or escalate them when required.
  • Advise the assigned business group on solution implementation and delivery.
  • Analyze data and business issues to develop practical recommendations.
  • Track performance, address problems, and support operational effectiveness.
  • Help manage databases while following data governance standards.
  • Contribute to change management planning and execution activities.
  • Support operational programs and help promote business/group initiatives.
  • Follow security, fraud prevention, confidentiality, and safeguarding procedures.
  • Identify and manage risk, ensuring required documentation and regulatory steps are completed.
  • Work independently on complex tasks and handle unusual situations with sound judgment.
  • Take on related duties as needed to support business priorities.
  • Apply the bank’s risk framework and make decisions that protect assets and align with policy, laws, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Usually 4 to 6 years of relevant experience, along with a post-secondary degree in a related field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Strong ability to analyze financial statements, assess credit risk, and translate findings into business recommendations.
  • Solid understanding of business banking products, lending processes, loan documentation, and related policies and systems.
  • Proven background in customer-facing sales and service.
  • Technical ability developed through education and/or prior business experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective collaboration and teamwork abilities.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders effectively.
  • Comfortable using data to support decisions.

Compensation and benefits

The posted salary range is $53,200 to $98,300 per year, paid as a salaried role. Total compensation may also include commission, performance incentives, discretionary bonuses, and other rewards depending on the pay structure and role requirements. Benefits can include health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
