Role overview
This part-time emergency department registration role focuses on supporting hospital patient accounts and reimbursement activities. The position centers on working with non-Medicare and non-Medicaid receivables, including Commercial, Blue Cross, workers’ compensation, and other similar payors.
Key duties
- Manage collection efforts for the hospital’s Commercial, Blue Cross, workers’ compensation, and other non-Medicare/non-Medicaid accounts receivable.
- Prepare and submit appeal letters and follow-up inquiries to the correct insurance payor when needed.
- Reach out to patients, physician offices, and other third parties to gather information required for account resolution.
- Partner with Insurance, Pre-certification, Registration, Nursing, Medical Records, and other hospital teams to help secure complete reimbursement.
- Answer account-related questions involving billing concerns, patient balances, and inaccurate or missing information.
- Maintain and update patient account details for the assigned alphabet range within the department.
- Review overdue accounts to determine whether they should be referred to outside collections.
Schedule
The role requires 8 hours per week and includes every other weekend.
Requirements
- High school diploma or an equivalent credential is required.
- At least 1 year of experience in healthcare patient accounts or billing is preferred.
- Comfort using a personal computer and standard business applications such as Microsoft Word and spreadsheets is preferred.
- Familiarity with filing and payment rules for Commercial, Blue Cross, and other healthcare payors is preferred.
- Background knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Candidates must be able to complete a basic FIT test and demonstrate full body mobility, including walking, kneeling, standing, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, reaching, and sitting for long periods.
- The job requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
