Job description
Role overview
As Regional Technical Manager, you will take charge of the upkeep, operational readiness, and performance improvement of vessels and related floating assets across the Middle East region. The position is focused on keeping the fleet economical to run, safe to operate, and aligned with international rules, internal policies, and customer expectations.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and manage long-range budgets for vessels, including maintenance, repair work, dry-docking, major overhauls, insurance, and fuel and lubricant expenses.
- Oversee the planning and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance, dry-dock periods, modifications, and technical initiatives while staying within budget and company standards.
- Track and support the use of strong project management practices, with emphasis on accurate reporting and adherence to internal and external compliance requirements.
- Make sure vessels remain safe, seaworthy, and suitable for their intended purpose so they can operate reliably and efficiently.
- Drive safety, health, environment, and quality practices, review incidents, and ensure corrective and preventive measures are implemented properly.
- Guide Contract Managers and Operations Managers with technical direction so vessel operations remain safe, efficient, and consistent.
- Perform or supervise regular inspections of vessels to assess condition, compliance, and overall performance.
- Work closely with clients and charter representatives to strengthen relationships, support compliance, and spot opportunities for new business.
- Contribute technical and operational expertise to tendering activities and assist the commercial team in winning new work.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the regional technical team while promoting high standards, accountability, and professional growth.
- Ensure vessel logs, technical records, and reporting documentation are complete, accurate, and maintained according to company procedures.
Candidate profile
The role requires a professional who is prepared to live in the UAE. You should bring solid maritime technical expertise, strong leadership ability, and the confidence to work in an international marine environment. Experience in the MEIS region is preferred, along with a background at sea as Chief Engineer or First Engineer if available.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Maritime Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Naval Architecture; Maritime Officer HWTK is preferred.
- At least 8 years of technical management experience in an international maritime setting.
- Prior exposure to working in the MEIS region.
- Sea-going experience as Chief Engineer or First Engineer is preferred.
- Strong understanding of vessel engineering, maintenance systems, and on-board operating practices.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management capabilities, including the ability to define and uphold technical standards and procedures.
- Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Willingness to reside in the United Arab Emirates.
