Job description
Role overview
AWS is a long-established cloud platform used globally, and its environmental function plays a key role in supporting growth while helping the business meet environmental compliance requirements across operations, data centers, customer-facing services, and other facilities. The company’s climate commitment includes running operations on 100% renewable energy by 2025 and reaching net zero carbon across the business by 2040.
This position is for a Regional Environmental Engineer based in Dublin, responsible for environmental compliance across the region. The role involves making sure standards and policies align with regulatory obligations, advising operations, design, and construction partners, and helping drive environmental procedures across the business. The role also requires working closely with government bodies, contractors, consultants, and internal teams to support environmental performance and compliance.
The team operates within AWS Infrastructure Services, which is responsible for designing, planning, delivering, and running AWS global infrastructure, including data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling systems. The environment is fast-paced, highly technical, and collaborative, with a strong focus on operational excellence and inclusive teamwork.
Key responsibilities
- Build and roll out environmental strategies and programs across several sites, drawing on input from operations, engineering, and construction teams.
- Oversee compliance with local and national environmental requirements while aligning with Amazon’s internal standards.
- Carry out environmental audits and investigations, then turn findings into corrective actions and practical improvements.
- Develop working relationships with regulators, internal stakeholders, contractors, and external experts.
- Create, monitor, and forecast environmental metrics to assess performance and organizational impact.
Required background
- A bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, geology, geography, biology, chemistry, or a similar discipline, plus at least 5 years of experience in environmental management or technical advisory work.
- Strong understanding of Irish and EU environmental regulations, including compliance, permitting, waste handling, and water discharge requirements.
- Hands-on experience with environmental management systems such as ISO 14001 and with environmental impact assessments.
- Project management experience and practical use of MS Office tools.
Preferred profile
- Familiarity with critical data center equipment.
- Working knowledge of engineering records, electrical drawings, and standard operating procedures.
- Experience managing projects in data centers or similar critical infrastructure environments.
- Background in data center engineering operations, especially electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
- Ability to read and interpret construction specifications and drawings across all disciplines.
Culture and employee experience
AWS emphasizes diverse hiring, supports candidates with non-linear career paths, and encourages applicants even if they do not match every preferred qualification. The organization highlights work-life harmony, inclusive communities, mentorship, and ongoing career growth resources. It also states that employment decisions are based on experience and skills, and that accommodations are available during the application and hiring process.
Equal opportunity and privacy
Amazon states that it is an equal opportunities employer and does not discriminate on protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected characteristics. The company also notes that it places a high priority on candidate privacy and data security and directs applicants to its privacy notice for further details.
