About the Role

Sunshine Disposal & Recycling is seeking a dedicated full-time Refuse Truck Driver for its Lewiston, ID location. This position involves operating automated refuse collection vehicles in both residential and commercial settings. The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 2:30pm. This role offers a competitive hourly rate and opportunities for wage increases at regular intervals, along with a comprehensive benefits package.

Key Responsibilities

  • Arrive punctually and obtain daily paperwork or assigned tablet device.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections of trucks and complete necessary documentation, reporting any maintenance needs prior to operation.
  • Drive assigned fixed routes using provided route maps and information, servicing both residential and commercial customers.
  • Position containers and carts to facilitate automated collection, handling extra items as needed.
  • Engage in clear and prompt communication with supervisors and office staff to resolve route or dispatch issues promptly.
  • Unload and clean out truck at the designated facility at the end of each shift.
  • Complete post-trip inspections and report any maintenance issues identified after the route is finished.
  • Accurately submit route information through tablet and/or paper notes, including additional charges or customer updates.
  • Attend routine safety and training meetings.
  • Participate in special assignments or projects as requested by management.
  • Execute any additional duties delegated by supervisors.

Requirements

  • Valid Class A or B CDL without air brake restrictions.
  • Current US DOT medical certification.
  • Compliance with FMCSA drug testing protocols.
  • Meet all company insurance eligibility standards.
  • Successful completion of corporate safety training curricula.
  • Basic proficiency using computer technology (OJT provided for proprietary systems).
  • At least 2 years of commercial driving experience with a Class A or B CDL.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including consistent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, frequent climbing and bending, pulling/pushing or lifting up to 60 pounds, and occasional crawling or stooping.
  • Sufficient vision to see distances of 20+ feet and distinguish color, with or without corrective lenses.

Safety Standards

  • Operate state-of-the-art vehicles equipped with GPS, in-cab cameras, and tablet technology for route management.
  • Strictly prohibited from using mobile phones or personal electronic devices during vehicle operation.
  • No smoking or vaping permitted inside any company vehicle.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting pay rate: $23.79 per hour.
  • Scheduled pay increases at 6, 12, and 18 months, with annual cost-of-living adjustments starting in 2027.
