Job description

Position Summary

The Recreation Director leads the planning, coordination, and day-to-day management of guest recreation programs and activities. The role is focused on creating memorable experiences that improve guest satisfaction, support retention, and reflect the hotel’s brand. It also includes oversight of recreation spaces, activity employees, and special events, with strong emphasis on service quality, safety, and smooth operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, arrange, and oversee daily leisure activities and special programs for guests across all age groups.
  • Oversee recreational spaces and amenities such as pools, fitness areas, sports facilities, beaches, water-sport offerings, and similar resort features as applicable.
  • Hire, train, assign schedules to, and supervise recreation team members to deliver consistent guest service.
  • Create seasonal activity schedules and fresh programming that adds value to the guest stay.
  • Ensure equipment, facilities, and operating practices meet safety standards and comply with company rules and local regulations.
  • Work with other hotel departments to deliver guest events, group programming, and special functions.
  • Handle the department budget, inventory control, and purchasing of recreation supplies and equipment.
  • Respond to guest questions, concerns, and feedback promptly and professionally.
  • Market recreation offerings and encourage participation through clear communication and promotional efforts.
  • Monitor attendance, guest satisfaction, and program results to identify improvements and new opportunities.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in recreation, hospitality, resort operations, or guest services management.
  • Proven leadership, planning, and people skills.
  • Strong customer service and communication abilities.
  • Understanding of recreational programming, safety procedures, and risk management.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • CPR, First Aid, or related certifications are preferred.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and stay active for long periods.
  • Capability to lift and move recreation equipment when required.
  • Comfort working both indoors and outdoors, including in changing weather conditions.
  • Ability to work varied hours during the day.

Additional Information

This position is based in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and is a full-time, on-site role.
