Position Overview
The Real Time System Analyst I/II role is tasked with supporting AltaLink's Energy Management System (EMS), primarily used by the Control Center (ACC). This involves managing and maintaining the computer and network equipment, software, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) connections, and other subsystems critical for operating and securing AltaLink's Transmission System assets. The role requires working in a fast-paced, high-pressure yet structured environment to ensure continuous availability of mission-critical EMS systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support for EMS and related infrastructure ensuring Control Center services effectively manage transmission assets.
- Apply new software installations and upgrades on EMS, databases, and operating systems.
- Maintain external interfaces needed at the Control Centers.
- Troubleshoot EMS and SCADA issues alongside Field Technicians, Engineers, and vendors; build, test, integrate, and document new hardware/software following standards like Alberta Reliability Standard including CIP and O&P, ISO 27001 & 27019, and CSC.
- Utilize existing procedures, propose and implement improvements.
- Monitor performance of EMS/SCADA systems to optimize and identify enhancement opportunities.
- Implement system changes in EMS/SCADA, including network infrastructure components such as firewalls, routers, switches, and applications like OS, SolarWinds, and Tripwire.
- Test and commission new SCADA remotes or data points.
- Participate in scheduled standby duties to support 24/7 EMS operations.

Required Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Electronics, or Electrical Technology.
- At least one year of experience working in an EMS or data center environment.
- Proven capability to fulfill the responsibilities described.
- Experience supporting high availability mission-critical systems, especially Real Time SCADA Systems.
- Familiarity with ticketing systems such as Change Gear and Service Now.
- Basic understanding of cybersecurity best practices.
- Structured approach to completing tasks, troubleshooting, and documenting processes.
- Attention to detail, self-driven, proactive in goal achievement.
- Strong written communication skills with experience in process and procedure documentation.
- Effective verbal communication skills to interact with colleagues, field operators, and contractors.
- Good interpersonal skills to foster positive collaboration and customer outcomes.
- Creative problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively under pressure and fast-paced conditions.
- Experience with hyperconverged infrastructure; knowledge of VMWare and VXRail preferred.
- Experience in networking and security equipment like Palo Alto, Cisco, and RSA preferred.
- Familiarity with enterprise applications including Tripwire Enterprise, Tripwire Log Center, Cyberark, and Trellix tools is advantageous.
- Experience working with SQL databases.
- Knowledge of server hardware platforms such as Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
- Scripting experience including PowerShell, batch files, and WMI queries.
- Windows systems support experience, including Active Directory, patch management, software deployment, WSUS, and system builds.
- Working knowledge of Linux operating systems and support tools.
- Ability to perform regular standby duties including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- History of consistent attendance and strong performance.
