Quantity Surveyor

About the Role

The Quantity Surveyor will oversee and manage project expenses throughout all phases by preparing detailed cost estimates, measuring construction quantities, assessing subcontractor payments, and ensuring project costs remain within approved budgets. Supporting the Cost Control Department, the role ensures efficient project delivery with financial accuracy and value maximization.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform quantity take-offs in detail from project drawings and specifications.
• Develop comprehensive cost estimates and project budgets.
• Track ongoing costs against budgets, identifying discrepancies and variances.
• Assist in compiling cash flow forecasts and regular cost reports.
• Contribute to value engineering efforts to optimize costs.
• Measure and verify quantities for construction activities.
• Prepare Bills of Quantities and detailed cost breakdowns.
• Assess impact of design modifications on project costs.
• Evaluate and price contract variations, change orders, and claims.
• Review contracts for commercial compliance.
• Prepare interim payment applications and certify subcontractor invoices.
• Analyze subcontractor quotations and advise on awards.
• Support final account preparation and project contract closure.
• Produce weekly and monthly cost reporting documents.
• Monitor committed costs, actual spend, and projected final costs.
• Maintain accurate cost documentation and flag commercial risks with corrective recommendations.
• Collaborate with procurement to prepare tender documentation and analyze bids.
• Provide commercial input during tender evaluations.
• Engage with project teams including managers, engineers, procurement, finance, and site staff to coordinate cost control.
• Attend project progress meetings and commercial reviews to communicate cost-related information promptly.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related disciplines.
• Professional certifications like RICS, AIQS, MRICS or equivalents are advantageous.
• 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in quantity surveying or cost control in construction sectors.
• Previous involvement in commercial, residential, industrial, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
• Experience with EPC or contracting organizations is a plus.

Technical Proficiencies

• In-depth understanding of quantity surveying methodologies and cost control procedures.
• Expertise in preparing Bills of Quantities and quantity take-offs.
• Familiarity with construction contracts, especially FIDIC preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Working knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms is beneficial.
• Experience using quantity take-off software including AutoCAD, CostX, PlanSwift, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
• Strong grasp of construction techniques, materials, and project scheduling.
