About the Role

Midlands State University Enterprises is inviting applications for a Quality Inspector in its chemical manufacturing unit based in Gweru, Midlands Province, Zimbabwe. The selected candidate will be responsible for checking raw materials, products in process, packaging inputs, and completed chemical goods to confirm that they meet internal specifications, regulatory expectations, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A diploma in Chemical Technology, Applied Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Quality Assurance, or Biochemistry is required.
  • Holding an additional qualification in Quality Management Systems, HACCP, or another quality assurance-related field will be considered an advantage.
  • Applicants should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in chemical production, laboratory work, quality control, or quality assurance.

Skills and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of GMP, ISO standards, and occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Capability to carry out product inspections and basic laboratory testing for chemical products.
  • Good analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, and report-writing skills.
  • Comfort using quality control and laboratory equipment.
  • Strong accuracy, attention to detail, and communication skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Check raw materials, packaging inputs, items in production, and finished products against set specifications and quality benchmarks.
  • Carry out regular inspections and sampling throughout the production cycle.
  • Spot non-compliant products, document the issues, and suggest corrective action.
  • Keep detailed inspection logs, quality records, and product release paperwork up to date.
  • Ensure adherence to SOPs, GMP requirements, and safety rules.
  • Work with production and laboratory staff to address quality concerns and improve outcomes.
  • Perform periodic audits of production and storage spaces to confirm compliance with quality expectations.
  • Support the training of production staff on quality assurance practices and standards.
