Job description
About Zimbabwe Farmers' Union
Zimbabwe Farmers' Union (ZFU) is a nationwide membership-driven body based at 5 Van Praagh, Milton Park, Harare, Zimbabwe. The organization represents farmers from across the country and champions their interests, with a strong emphasis on better livelihoods, higher productivity, and improved access to markets. ZFU collaborates with smallholder, emerging, and commercial farmers, along with government agencies, development partners, and agribusiness stakeholders. Its work includes farmer training, sharing agricultural information, advocating for supportive policies, and coordinating initiatives that benefit the sector.
Role Overview
This is a full-time, on-site position based in Midlands. The Provincial Farmer Coordinator will oversee farmer support and coordination activities within the province, helping connect farmers with the Union and strengthening delivery at local level.
Key Duties
- Organize and support farmer activities throughout the province, including member mobilization and registration.
- Arrange meetings and maintain effective communication between farmers and the Union.
- Plan and conduct training sessions, field demonstrations, and information-sharing workshops with support from local partners and extension services.
- Gather, track, and report data related to farmer needs, production patterns, and market developments.
- Disseminate up-to-date information on produce prices, agricultural inputs, and policy changes.
- Assist in project delivery and monitor the progress of field-level activities.
- Provide regular updates and feedback to provincial and national leadership to help improve member services.
Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a solid background in working with communities and farmers, along with the ability to engage diverse groups and local leaders effectively.
Experience in agricultural extension, rural development, or similar field-based work is important, especially where the work involved trainings, farm visits, or advisory support to farmers.
Applicants should be comfortable with communication tasks, writing reports, collecting and analyzing basic data, and using standard office applications and mobile communication tools.
A good understanding of Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector, value chains, and rural livelihoods is needed, particularly awareness of the realities facing smallholder farmers.
The role requires someone who can organize, prioritize, and manage several activities across a province, including frequent travel to rural areas when necessary.
Minimum academic qualification: diploma or degree in Agriculture, Development Studies, or a related field.
Fluency in English and at least one major local language is required, together with strong people skills and a cooperative working approach.
Prior exposure to farmer organizations, NGOs, or government extension services will be considered an advantage.
