Role overview
The Queensland Police Service is seeking a Property Officer to oversee the Exhibit and Property Room at Mount Isa Station in Cloncurry, Queensland. This position focuses on the secure handling, tracking, disposal, and audit of police property, exhibits, and related items in line with service procedures and legal requirements.
Key accountabilities
- Take responsibility for the control of drug, liquor, and other court exhibits while they are held pending disposal or destruction, including matters connected to the Forensic Services Group where relevant.
- Coordinate the disposal of drugs, liquor, impoundment vehicles, property, and exhibits, and arrange the destruction of firearms when required, following Queensland Police Service processes.
- Keep accurate records and a detailed register of exhibits, drugs, and lost or unclaimed property in accordance with Queensland Police Service standards.
- Operate property management computer systems to record, dispose of, and track items held as property or exhibits.
- Carry out routine audits of stored property and ensure compliance with Queensland Police Service property management policies and procedures.
- Provide court evidence when required concerning the chain of custody and continuity of possession for exhibits.
- Deliver guidance and training to police and staff on the correct storage, retrieval, and disposal of property.
- Meet workplace health and safety obligations, particularly for the secure storage and disposal of weapons, drugs, and forensic exhibits.
- Assist in developing local property management procedures so they align with Queensland Police Service policy and applicable legislation.
