Job description

Overview

Join the Family and Consumer Sciences team as a Promotora, playing a vital role in delivering health education and prevention programs tailored to underserved and low-income populations along the U.S.-Mexico border. This position involves engaging the community, promoting health awareness, and connecting individuals with essential local health resources. The Promotora will support grant-funded projects and collaborate with different agencies to enhance overall community health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement culturally sensitive, community-oriented health education programs.
  • Provide preventive health education and resources to minority and limited-income groups.
  • Recruit and organize participants for various health initiatives.
  • Assist in coordinating and executing grant-supported community programs.
  • Refer participants to appropriate community resources and agencies.
  • Collect and document program data, including outcomes, using surveys and assessments.
  • Maintain updated knowledge on health issues affecting the US-Mexico border region.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred for effective communication.
  • Ability to handle light physical activities such as standing, walking, and lifting objects up to 10 pounds.
  • Willingness to travel on weekends or evenings occasionally as required.

Additional Information

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a full-time equivalency of 1.0. The role is part of the American Federation of State, County & Municipal Employees (AFSCME) bargaining unit. Work is primarily conducted indoors with minimal physical risk. Employment is contingent on funding availability.
