Job description
Role overview
Freo Group Pty Ltd is hiring a Project Manager to oversee major renewable energy contracts, including work tied to the Uungula Wind Farm project in Orange and the Boulder Creek Wind Farm project in Central Queensland. The role sits within a global industrial group backed by Berkshire Hathaway and focuses on delivering practical, high-impact work in a business known for crane hire, heavy lift, logistics, oversize transport, materials handling, warehousing, and storage across Australia.
Key accountabilities
- Keep project delivery aligned with approved budgets and reporting expectations so the work remains financially controlled and commercially sound.
- Support the deployment and upkeep of an effective quality and occupational health and safety management framework that meets legal obligations and company standards.
- Work closely with clients to ensure each project is delivered in a compliant, transparent, and professional way that supports strong customer satisfaction.
- Lead crane operators, riggers, and subcontractors, making sure the team delivers strong workmanship at a fair cost while reflecting the company’s values and culture.
Qualifications and experience
Applicants should hold a tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or a closely related field, or have an equivalent mix of technical education and relevant industry experience. A project management certification is preferred. The role calls for 5+ years of project management experience in construction, with wind sector and crane industry exposure highly desirable. Experience in contract management or project management training is also expected. The successful candidate must have handled projects valued at $20 million or more and be comfortable leading and developing teams, managing commercial and contractual matters, and balancing budgets, schedules, and multiple stakeholders.
Skills and tools
Strong leadership, clear communication, sound report writing, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are essential. The role also requires a safety-first mindset, the ability to stay effective under pressure, and the confidence to build productive relationships with clients, partners, and contractors. Candidates should be proficient with project management software, MS Office tools including Outlook and Excel, MS Project, and Oracle P6.
Additional notes
This is a long-term contract role with the possibility of future projects. Travel and accommodation for site visits will be covered when the successful candidate is not local. After a conditional offer is made, candidates may need to complete further job-related screening as allowed or required by law.
Work style and location
The position is based onsite, with work connected to Orange in New South Wales and Central Queensland. The role is suitable for project professionals who can operate in a FIFO or DIDO-style environment across renewable energy project sites.
