Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking an energetic Project Engineer to contribute to a major infrastructure project located in Horowhenua, north of Wellington. As part of the Ō2NL Alliance, you will report to the Project Manager and senior leaders, engaging collaboratively in planning, execution, monitoring, controlling, and closing project stages.

Key Duties

  • Coordinate with contractors and field teams to ensure projects are completed safely, compliantly, and on schedule.
  • Provide technical engineering support addressing design development and resolving on-site issues.
  • Oversee financial aspects including performance monitoring, forecasting, and handling contract variations or claims.
  • Enforce health, safety, and environmental standards via site inspections, team safety talks, and proactive leadership.
  • Maintain thorough documentation such as project logs, reports, meeting records, and client correspondence.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff and promote continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support tendering, cost estimating, and procurement processes as needed.
  • Manage materials, equipment, and resources efficiently to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Assist in risk assessments, environmental compliance, and adherence to consent conditions.

Candidate Requirements

  • Possess a relevant engineering qualification coupled with over 5 years’ experience in civil construction.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of project documentation, reporting, and digital tool proficiency.
  • Understand construction methods, specifications, New Zealand standards, and consenting procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and leadership capability.
  • Sound knowledge of quality assurance, safety, and environmental protocols.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office suite and project management software.
