Job description
Role overview
A leading EPC contractor is hiring a Project Director to steer the delivery of hyperscale and large-scale colocation data centre programmes across the MENA region. This senior leadership position carries end-to-end accountability for several mission-critical developments, with responsibility for delivering them safely, on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality and operational readiness.
The role involves shaping direction across the full project lifecycle, including early-stage planning, design control, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final handover. The appointed leader will also be expected to maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, utility partners, and other key stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the executive delivery of hyperscale and large-scale colocation data centre projects.
- Manage the full project execution cycle, from design coordination and procurement through construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Define project strategy, governance structures, and delivery approaches that align with client goals and organisational standards.
- Direct cross-functional teams made up of project managers, design managers, construction managers, commercial specialists, and technical experts.
- Control schedules, budgets, risk registers, and resource deployment across multiple workstreams.
- Serve as the main senior contact for clients, consultants, utilities, supply chain partners, and other stakeholders.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with hyperscale operators and major project partners.
- Promote strong standards in health, safety, quality, and environmental performance across all project activities.
- Oversee commercial matters such as contract administration, variation control, claim avoidance, and financial tracking.
- Track delivery progress against milestones and introduce corrective measures where delays or risks emerge.
- Run governance forums and deliver regular executive updates to internal leaders and external stakeholders.
- Support commissioning plans, operational readiness activities, and transition into client operations teams.
- Encourage collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- A degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a closely related field.
- At least 10 years of experience delivering major construction projects, including substantial exposure to data centres and other mission-critical facilities.
- Demonstrable success leading hyperscale or large colocation data centre projects from initial concept through completion.
- Strong background in managing multidisciplinary teams within EPC, PMC, or client-side settings.
- Solid knowledge of data centre delivery needs, including critical power, cooling systems, commissioning, and operational resilience.
- Proven capability in programme control, commercial leadership, contract administration, and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience with internationally recognised contract forms and large teams spread across different locations.
- Previous Middle East experience is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with the standards and expectations of hyperscale clients such as AWS, Microsoft, Google, Meta, or Oracle would be an advantage.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and decision-making abilities, with comfort operating at executive level.
