Job description
About Hutt City Council
Hutt City Council is working toward a connected, resilient, and inclusive city where everyone can thrive. The organisation is taking on ambitious goals and new challenges, creating room for people to contribute fresh ideas and help shape positive outcomes for the community.
The council is also evolving its structure to respond more effectively to community expectations, stay adaptable for future needs, strengthen its capability, and foster a welcoming, progressive workplace.
What this role involves
This position offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to environmental outcomes and the Lower Hutt community. In this role, you will guide the Resource Recovery programme, shape strategic planning and policy advice, and help deliver the actions in the Council’s Waste Management and Minimisation Plan.
You will also advise Council on waste minimisation and resource recovery opportunities, promote behaviour change toward a circular economy, and support the creation of business cases for resource recovery projects.
What you will bring
The ideal candidate will have experience leading and influencing work programmes, a relevant tertiary qualification, and a strong background in strategy and planning. You should be able to interpret research, turn findings into practical insights, and bring excellent project management capability.
While not essential, experience in local government and familiarity with solid waste management technologies would be an advantage.
Why join

Hutt City Council supports employee growth and development and values a healthy balance between work and life. The organisation also highlights a range of benefits and flexible work options.
