Job description
Role overview
This is a key production estimating position with a respected residential builder on the Sunshine Coast. The role goes well beyond preparing figures; it calls for sharp commercial thinking, accurate forecasting, margin protection, and the ability to help set projects up for a smooth and profitable delivery from the outset.
The business is known for quality home builds and a healthy internal culture, and it is looking for an experienced estimator who takes pride in precision, can spot cost risks early, and works well with construction teams in a busy residential setting.
This opportunity would suit someone who values accuracy, ownership, teamwork, and long-term stability.
What you'll do
- Produce detailed production estimates, bills of quantities, and construction budgets
- Examine drawings, specifications, and supporting construction documents thoroughly
- Handle variations, RFIs, and changes to construction costs
- Coordinate pricing with suppliers and subcontractors
- Create purchase orders and support procurement processes
- Track construction spending and flag overruns early
- Assist supervisors and delivery teams during project execution
- Help ensure jobs are delivered efficiently while maintaining profitability and margin
What we're looking for
The preferred candidate will have solid experience in production estimating, residential estimating, volume or project home construction, construction cost planning, and purchasing or procurement in a residential building environment.
Experience that would be especially valuable includes working with residential builders, exposure to volume housing or project homes, a good understanding of construction sequencing and methods, experience using Databuild or similar estimating systems, and a strong grasp of commercial factors such as pricing, margin, and profitability.
We are looking for someone who puts accuracy first, brings sound commercial judgement, understands how to protect margin and control costs, communicates effectively with suppliers and internal teams, takes responsibility for their work, and enjoys contributing to a collaborative high-performance environment.
Who this role is not suited to
This position is unlikely to suit a graduate or junior estimator looking for a heavily training-focused role, someone whose background is mainly tender-only estimating, or a candidate whose experience lies outside residential construction. It is also not ideal for people who prefer to work in isolation with little accountability.
The company is seeking someone ready to step in and contribute with minimal onboarding time.
What is offered
- Base salary package of $100,000 to $115,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience
- Employment with a well-established Sunshine Coast builder that has a strong local reputation
- Supportive leadership and a collaborative team culture
- A stable opportunity with long-term career potential
- Modern systems and a team-oriented working environment
- Room to progress within the business
- Early finishes on Fridays
- A strong lifestyle and work-life balance on the Sunshine Coast
