Job description
About Halter
Halter is building technology to help farmers and graziers run more productive and sustainable operations. Its tools are designed to remove the time-heavy limits of conventional farming, giving customers a simpler way to manage animals and grazing. The company is backed by several well-known investors and is working on a mission that aims to create meaningful change in agriculture.
About the Role
Halter is hiring a Product Manager for its Virtual Fencing team. Virtual Fencing is central to the company’s product and is used by thousands of farmers to manage animals. The role focuses on understanding what farmers need, turning those insights into thoughtful product features, and working at the intersection of farming and technology.
You do not need prior product management experience, but you do need a strong farming background and a real interest in learning how the technology works. This is a role for someone who enjoys solving difficult problems, working quickly, and helping shape tools that farmers use every day.
What You'll Do
- Spend time on farms regularly to understand how farmers operate and how Halter fits into their day-to-day work.
- Identify what farmers genuinely need in practice, including how features should function in dairy and beef environments.
- Help determine what should be built next and explain the reasoning behind priorities.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and designers to deliver and release new features.
- Support successful rollouts by making sure new capabilities are adopted well by farmers.
What We're Looking For
- Hands-on farm experience in roles such as farm assistant, farm hand, herd manager, second-in-charge, farm manager, rural representative, or a similar position.
- Strong curiosity and a drive to become highly knowledgeable about virtual fencing and the technology behind it.
- Comfort working in fast-moving, less-defined environments where you need to test ideas, adjust quickly, and keep moving.
- Ability to think critically and simplify complex problems into practical solutions.
- Clear communication skills for speaking with engineers, farmers, and other internal teams.
- A focus on usability, simplicity, and polished product experiences, especially in demanding real-world settings.
Benefits
- Access to snacks and drinks at work.
- Southern Cross Health Insurance partnership for health and well-being support.
- 6 months of fully paid leave for primary caregivers and 4 weeks of fully paid leave for secondary caregivers, along with other family-related benefits.
- An annual $1,000 personal development allowance.
- Wellness leave and unlimited paid annual leave.
- A competitive compensation package that includes salary, benefits, and an employee stock ownership plan.
Work Environment
This is an office-first role. In-person work is the default because the company believes it strengthens collaboration, learning, feedback, and relationships. The setup is flexible when needed, supported by a high-trust culture where people are encouraged to do what is best for the business.
Application and Inclusion
Halter encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds and invites people to apply even if they do not meet every requirement. Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter explaining their interest in the role and in working at Halter, along with a CV.
Why the Team Enjoys Working Here
- The work has a real-world impact, helping farmers improve their livelihoods, spend more time with family, and run more sustainable businesses.
- The team is made up of talented, kind, and motivated people who enjoy tackling difficult challenges and building practical solutions.
- There is strong room for learning, autonomy, and personal growth, supported by a dedicated development budget.
- The pace is demanding, but the work is exciting and meaningful, with a culture that embraces ambitious goals and hard problems.
