Job description
About the role
The Ministry of Education New Zealand is looking for a Product Manager, Assessment to support national curriculum work for years 11-13 across English medium and Māori medium schools and kura. This is a fixed-term position based in Wellington, available through 30 June 2027.
In this role, you will report to the programme lead and work closely with ministry curriculum designers and external writers to make sure curriculum content meets a high standard of quality.
What you will do
You will help teams deliver strong, coherent products by translating the curriculum design vision into day-to-day delivery. The role also acts as a connector across subjects, teams, and leaders, helping maintain consistency and alignment. You will contribute both to delivery support and to upstream strategic thinking so that planning and execution stay closely linked.
About you
The ideal person brings curriculum design expertise, strong relationship-building skills, sound judgement, and confidence working in an agile environment. Experience leading in an education setting would be an advantage.
You should also have experience in complex organisations, in building partnerships to achieve shared outcomes, and in programme or project environments. A deep understanding of at least one of the eight learning areas in the New Zealand Curriculum or Te Mātauranga o Aotearoa is important, along with a broader grasp of curriculum. You must be willing to follow Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
Team and organisation
You will be joining experienced educators and skilled project managers in the Phase 5 Subjects Programme, part of the Curriculum and Assessment Change Programme (CACP). The team operates with high trust, encourages initiative, and is working at pace on an important delivery project for secondary schools.
Te Poutāhū leads national curricula for Aotearoa New Zealand, along with assessment and aromatawai systems and processes. The group develops curriculum services for teachers, kaiako, leaders, ākonga, whānau, and communities, with a focus on identity, language, culture, inclusion, and evidence-based practice. Its strengths include te reo Māori, mātauranga Māori, disability, inclusive learning support, and culturally relevant content, supporting inclusive learning for all ākonga through Te Mahau.
How to apply
To be considered, submit your CV and cover letter using the application process. In your cover letter, share information about yourself, your values, motivation, strengths, transferable skills, and any diverse perspectives you would bring to the role.
