Job description

Role overview

The University of Canterbury is hiring a Product Lead to join its Business Services team in Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand. This permanent role is centred on coordinating, shaping, and delivering digital work across the university’s collaboration and information environment, with an early focus on the Digital Information Programme.

What you will be doing

In this position, you will help drive delivery across UC’s Microsoft 365 environment, with particular attention on SharePoint Online and Microsoft Teams as key parts of the Digital Information Management Toolkit. Your work will include backlog ownership, cross-team coordination, stakeholder engagement, and support for the successful rollout of solutions that improve how information is structured, governed, and accessed.

You will lead the end-to-end Deliberate Design process for SharePoint Online (Vault), working with stakeholders from across the university to ensure solutions are practical, user-focused, and aligned with information architecture and permissions standards that can be maintained over time.

The role also involves supporting the migration from on-premises file storage and unstructured document libraries within Teams sites into SharePoint Online. You will need to guide multiple teams through change, handle ambiguity, maintain clear communication, and keep actions, decisions, risks, and timelines under control.

A key part of the role is balancing user experience and adoption with governance, compliance, and risk considerations. You will also contribute to continuous improvement by reviewing ways of working, taking part in retrospectives, and identifying opportunities to improve tools, processes, and the overall experience for users.

Working relationships

You will sit within UC’s Digital Business Services team and work as part of the Digital Information Programme project team. This will involve close collaboration with the Project Manager, Change Manager, Technical Leads, Business Analyst, the Information Records Management team, and vendors, while also building strong relationships with leaders and teams across the university.

Experience and capability expected

The university is looking for someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented, and confident handling delivery and stakeholder relationships in a complex environment. Experience working with Microsoft 365 at scale will be important, along with a strong understanding of agile delivery and product coordination practices.

Additional information

This is a permanent onsite role based in Ōtautahi | Christchurch. The position is 37.5 hours per week and offers a salary range of $108,459 to $134,900 per year, depending on skills and experience.

Benefits include 5 weeks of annual leave plus 5 days of university holidays, professional development opportunities, and employer superannuation contributions of up to 6.75%.
