About Stackwell
Stackwell is an investment platform based in New York City dedicated to empowering multicultural individuals, especially Gen Z and millennial wealth builders, to overcome cultural and emotional barriers to financial inclusion. The app offers automated portfolio construction, financial wellness education, and engagement tools to facilitate wealth building and asset ownership. Following its Series A funding, Stackwell is positioned for rapid growth.
Role Overview
This role calls for an individual contributor Product & Brand Designer to lead the design vision across the core product and brand elements. Reporting to the VP of Product and working closely with the Product team, the designer will proactively define and drive product visual direction and system consistency. Responsibilities encompass product feature design, design system ownership, and extending the brand’s cohesive visual language across marketing and educational materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Convert product requirements and user insights into polished mobile app designs across onboarding, investing, education, and engagement.
- Collaborate with Product Managers on UX flows and interaction patterns that balance ease of use with learner engagement.
- Perform thorough design quality assurance ahead of engineering handoff to align visuals with intended user experience.
- Prepare design decisions in advance to enable confident and efficient engineering development.
- Create clear flow diagrams and wireframes to communicate product logic and align cross-functional teams.
- Develop and maintain a component library and design system to ensure consistent styling, spacing, and interface uniformity.
- Shape the visual direction of the Stackwell app and brand, leading design strategy discussions and creating reusable assets to maintain uniformity across all brand touchpoints.
- Design high-quality visual assets for educational content including illustrations and graphics used within the app.
- Create marketing assets such as social media images, emails, and advertisements that visually represent the product.
- Develop partner-facing materials including infographics, logos, one-pagers, and onboarding documents to support program growth and cohesion.
- Bring competitive insight from fintech, edtech, and consumer app industries to inform and differentiate Stackwell’s design direction.
- Translate UX research findings into effective designs that bolster confidence and activation among users.
- Support the Learning team with visual design input for educational materials and experiences.
Qualifications
- 2 to 5 years of experience in product or UX design, preferably within consumer mobile applications.
- Portfolio demonstrating expertise in product/interaction design, systems thinking, and brand visual sensibility.
- Proficient in Figma for product design and prototyping; familiarity with Canva, Illustrator, and Photoshop for marketing and brand asset creation.
- Comfort with Google Workspace, particularly Google Slides.
- Experience or understanding of direct-to-consumer digital product optimization and performance analysis.
- Knowledge of design handoff procedures and working collaboratively with engineers, marketers, and creatives.
- Ability to balance deep product design tasks with fast-paced brand/creative requests without sacrificing quality.
- Strong communication skills to clearly explain and defend design decisions and collaborate effectively.
- A passion for promoting financial wellness and serving underrepresented communities.
Preferred Skills
- Background in fintech, edtech, or personal finance product design.
- Experience with motion design or micro-interactions.
- Familiarity with UX research methods translating directly into design improvements.
- Experience in brand design or illustration.
Personal Attributes
- Connects deeply with multicultural Gen Z and millennial audiences, driven by financial inclusion.
- Takes initiative and brings a clear personal vision to design leadership, not waiting to be directed.
- Views product and brand as an integrated system with attention to consistent user experience.
- Thrives in an early-stage environment with visible impact and ownership.
- Highly organized, self-directed, able to manage workflows, identify blockers, and keep projects progressing.
- Receptive to feedback with a focus on quick iteration while maintaining design integrity.
- Aspirations toward future design leadership ownership.
Compensation and Benefits
- Performance-based bonuses and equity participation.
- Comprehensive health benefits including medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
- 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions.
- Unlimited paid time off encouraged and supported.
- Opportunities for ongoing professional development and team-building activities.
Work Location and Scheduling
This position is based in New York City with a hybrid schedule requiring three days per week onsite at the office.
Diversity and Inclusion
Stackwell is firmly committed to diversity and equal opportunity, welcoming applicants of all backgrounds who value and thrive in multicultural environments. The company does not discriminate based on race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
