About the Role
In this Product Designer position, you will help shape how founders, investors, and partners interact with the MaRS platform. Your work will span the full design process for new features and improvements across platform products, properties, and tools, with the goal of making the experience easier to use, more intuitive, and more trustworthy.
This is a mid to senior individual contributor role with meaningful scope to influence product direction and improve the platform for Canada’s innovation community. The role is based in Toronto and follows a hybrid work model.
This is a full-time, one-year contract position.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and refine product experiences from early concepts through polished prototypes and final visuals.
- Work closely with engineering, product management, and other stakeholders to shape both long-term product direction and immediate delivery priorities.
- Collaborate across functions to ensure product experiences feel cohesive and well integrated.
- Help establish design as a strategic partner within the organization.
- Collect and interpret user feedback to improve shipped features over time.
- Record design rationale clearly and keep the intended design aligned with implementation.
- Set and monitor success measures related to design quality and user satisfaction.
- Contribute to the overall strategic direction of the MaRS platform.
- Use research to deepen understanding of users and guide platform improvements.
- Advance the design system while keeping it aligned with brand standards.
- Represent the design function in product reviews and community-facing events.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience delivering larger-scale software products.
- A portfolio that demonstrates strong ability in UX, UI, and interaction design.
- Excellent communication and storytelling abilities.
- Strong empathy for users and the ability to turn complex needs into simple, usable experiences.
- Comfort working through ambiguity, iterating quickly, and collaborating across disciplines.
- Proficiency with Figma or similar design tools, with a strong focus on quality and craft.
- Interest in how AI-first products should be designed and behave is considered an advantage.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada, live in Ontario, and be willing to work from the Toronto office at least 3 days per week.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is CAD 75,000 to CAD 90,000 annually. Benefits include extended healthcare coverage and paid time off.
