About Middesk
Middesk is revolutionizing the way businesses collaborate by simplifying business identity verification. Established in 2018, the company replaces outdated manual verification methods with an efficient platform delivering current and comprehensive data. This enables companies across various sectors to reliably confirm business identities, accelerate customer onboarding, and mitigate risks throughout the customer lifecycle.
Originating from Y Combinator, Middesk is supported by notable venture capital firms Sequoia Capital and Accel Partners and has been recognized on Forbes Fintech 50 List.
Role Overview
The role of a Product Designer at Middesk entails designing user-centered experiences that assist businesses in adhering to rigorous compliance and risk management standards, particularly within highly regulated sectors. Collaborating closely with colleagues in Product and Engineering teams, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire design lifecycle from research and conceptualization to product launch. Your approach will combine craftsmanship, holistic system perspective, and inquisitiveness at all stages.
This position operates under a hybrid work pattern with an expectation to work onsite two days each week at the San Francisco office. Hence, candidates should reside within a reasonable commuting distance to encourage effective face-to-face collaboration and foster team cohesion while maintaining some flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate intimately with Product and Engineering teams to clarify challenges, explore innovative solutions, and deliver designs that balance client requirements, business objectives, and technical limitations.
- Manage the full design process, spanning from initial discovery phases through to release, employing industry-recognized design methodologies to maximize impact.
- Transform complex, unclear data into clear and trustworthy user experiences.
- Utilize storytelling techniques to elucidate complex concepts related to business identity and risk, helping stakeholders grasp the reasoning behind design choices.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of Middesk’s design system and visual style to promote consistency, accessibility, and high-quality execution across all products.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- At least six years of professional in-house product design experience, especially designing impactful B2B solutions; prior involvement with platforms handling business or consumer data is advantageous.
- A portfolio demonstrating skillful simplification of intricate or abstract user problems into intuitive design solutions.
- Product-focused mindset with capability to partner effectively with product managers in defining problems, prioritizing tasks, and guiding decision making without relying solely on detailed requirements.
- Competency in interpreting multifaceted datasets and making informed choices about their presentation within user interfaces.
- Systems thinker comfortable working across user experience and API-driven frameworks, including familiarity with developer tools like SDK configuration, setup processes, and technical onboarding.
- Experience with large language model-powered development aids (e.g., Claude Code, Codex), capable of creating end-to-end prototypes independently of engineering teams.
- Strong communication aptitude enabling clear explanation of design rationales and advocacy for user needs.
- Initiative-driven approach to project progression, maintaining team alignment amid shifting priorities.
- Expertise in design software for prototyping, collaborative work in shared files, and stewardship of design system elements.
Preferred Additional Experience
- Background in product management, front-end development, or software engineering.
