Job description

Role overview

Travelpro is looking for a Product Designer focused on travel and handbags to help guide the brand’s shift toward a more design-forward, consumer-focused, and style-aware direction. The position centers on developing travel bags, handbags, backpacks, and other soft goods that combine visual appeal, practical performance, quality, and fresh ideas.

The right candidate will bring a polished design sensibility, a strong feel for fashion, materials, color, form, and consumer behavior, along with the technical depth needed to move products through development. This role is important to building a more premium and aspirational product identity that connects with lifestyle- and fashion-minded customers.

Success means bringing original, elevated concepts to life, helping guide category direction, working closely with cross-functional partners, and taking products from idea to commercialization.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will lead the creative direction for soft goods product lines, making sure designs align with the brand vision, consumer input, and seasonal briefs. You will design travel products and accessories with a strong emphasis on fashion, materials, color, silhouette, usability, and broad consumer appeal.

You will be expected to make thoughtful choices around materials, finishes, trims, hardware, and detailing to create premium products that fit the brand position. The role also involves using knowledge of textiles, fabric structures, material applications, and finishing methods to improve design quality, performance, and appearance.

Other responsibilities include preparing product specifications, tech packs, material callouts, and development documents for manufacturing partners; working closely with Product Development to translate consumer needs into design solutions; and managing color, material, trim, and hardware samples so they stay aligned with the seasonal direction and product story.

You will coordinate material development with sourcing teams, review prototypes and production samples, and provide clear feedback to manufacturing partners to protect quality, fit, finish, function, and design intent. In addition, you will research trends, consumer behavior, fashion influences, new materials, and innovative fabrication methods to support forward-looking product ideas and category growth.

The role also requires you to look for ways to improve quality, functionality, cost efficiency, material execution, and the overall customer experience, while managing development timelines, sample tracking, and cross-functional consistency across collections, branding, and storytelling.

Experience and qualifications

Travelpro is seeking someone with 3 to 5 years of experience in product design, soft goods, accessories, fashion, or a related consumer product field. A strong background in visually driven consumer products, especially bags, travel accessories, or lifestyle goods, is important.

Experience in consumer brands, retail, direct-to-consumer businesses, or fashion-led product companies is preferred, along with a track record of balancing creative direction with technical execution and commercialization. Prior work with merchandising, sourcing, development, engineering, and manufacturing teams is also expected. The role additionally calls for 3+ years of mentoring or guiding designers and contributing to collaborative creative teams.

A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Product Design, Accessories Design, or a closely related area is required, or equivalent relevant experience. Candidates should be proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and Vizcom, with Adobe Creative Suite and rendering or 3D visualization tools considered a plus.

Applicants should understand soft goods construction, paper patterns, sewing techniques, and materials such as leather, faux leather, nylon, polyester, and foam. Familiarity with consumer product manufacturing and development workflows, tech pack creation, and moving products from concept to commercialization is important. A strong grasp of product terminology, fit and finish expectations, and quality standards is also needed.

Skills and capabilities

This position calls for strong visual communication, sketching, presentation, and storytelling skills. A refined design eye, interest in fashion trends, color, materials, and brand storytelling, and the ability to turn consumer insights into marketable product ideas are all essential.

You should also bring solid organization and project management abilities, the capacity to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment, and technical understanding of soft goods construction, production methods, and product development workflows. Strong problem-solving, adaptability, and a collaborative working style are key to success.

Working environment

This is a hybrid role based in Boca Raton, Florida, with four days in the office and one day remote. The work involves hands-on interaction with physical products. Occasional travel may be required for vendor development, market research, and inspiration gathering.
