About QIMR Berghofer
QIMR Berghofer is a leading translational medical research institute dedicated to improving health through new diagnostics, improved treatments and prevention approaches. Its research focus spans Cancer, Infection and Inflammation, Brain and Mental Health, and Population Health. Located in Herston, Brisbane, the institute works closely with clinicians and other research organisations and employs more than 600 scientists, students, and non-research staff.
About the Procurement Team
Within the Finance and Procurement function, the procurement group partners with researchers to make sure buying activity follows the required procedures and secures goods and services at market or better-than-market pricing.
Role Purpose
The organisation is seeking a proactive and committed Procurement Officer to deliver dependable procurement advice and support to researchers and corporate teams across the institute. The role is responsible for ensuring purchasing activity aligns with applicable policies and legislation, delivers value for money, and supports strong supplier relationships.
Key Duties
- Take ownership of procurement work across an assigned portfolio while ensuring compliance with Queensland Procurement Policy and internal procedures.
- Handle the full procurement lifecycle, including planning, market engagement, tender preparation, evaluation, negotiation, and contract setup.
- Keep procurement documentation complete and accurate so the function remains ready for audit at all times.
- Support everyday purchasing activity and help maintain smooth, efficient procurement service delivery.
About You
To succeed in this role, you should have hands-on experience running procurement processes from start to finish, including RFQ and RFT preparation, supplier engagement, evaluation, negotiation, and contract finalisation.
You will also need strong communication and relationship-building skills, along with the confidence to discuss price, terms, and conditions with suppliers in order to secure value for money. A strong analytical approach, the ability to juggle several priorities at once, and the discipline to work to tight deadlines will be important.
Application Requirements
Candidates must provide a resume and a cover letter addressing the selection criteria listed in the position description. The closing date for applications is Sunday, 28 June 2026.
Eligibility
Applicants must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a valid work permit or visa. Work eligibility will be verified during the recruitment process.
