About NEU Battery Materials
NEU Battery Materials, established in 2021 and based in Singapore, is a climatetech startup pioneering the world's first patented electrochemical redox recycling technology to recover lithium from used lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, widely used in electric vehicles and energy storage systems. The company is committed to becoming the largest and most sustainable global source of recycled lithium, contributing significantly to electrification and circular economy efforts. Recognized by prominent organizations such as Temasek Foundation, BloombergNEF, and Forbes Asia, NEU is currently scaling up its operations.
Role Overview
We seek an experienced Process Engineer to join our engineering team during this critical expansion phase. This hands-on position requires ownership of commissioning preparations, leading trial run execution, and bringing structured industrial experience to ensure smooth scaling. The engagement is contract-based with the potential to convert to a permanent role depending on performance and fit. The position is onsite in Singapore with immediate start.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and lead the commissioning of process lines, including defining steps, sequencing, and coordinating teams and contractors.
- Maintain and manage commissioning checklists ensuring all pre-commissioning activities such as equipment qualification, safety checks, and documentation compliance are completed.
- Lead trial production runs from preparation through execution; design methods for tracking, recording, and reviewing operational data.
- Resolve commissioning challenges decisively on-ground, ensuring effective issue management.
- Supervise integration and scaling of new process equipment, facilitating a smooth transition from pilot to full-scale operations.
- Offer technical mentorship to junior engineers by guiding daily deliverables and troubleshooting efforts.
- Conduct hazard and feasibility analyses and provide onsite troubleshooting as required.
- Perform equipment qualifications verifying installations, operations, and maintenance meet specifications and industry standards.
- Identify operational bottlenecks in throughput, energy use, and material recovery and suggest practical optimization strategies.
- Collaborate with suppliers and contractors to evaluate and implement solutions enhancing plant reliability and performance.
- Develop data monitoring systems to support ongoing improvement in plant operations.
- Lead efforts in process documentation and standardization to embed best practices.
- Optimize workflows to improve efficiency, safety, and reduce costs.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Between 5 to 10 years of practical experience in process engineering, plant operations, or production, preferably in chemicals, advanced manufacturing, or similar industries.
- Proven experience leading commissioning and trial production runs with a comprehensive understanding of end-to-end processes.
- Strong skills in preparing teams for commissioning through task sequencing, ownership allocation, and on-ground execution management.
- Proficient in structured data tracking and performance review during trials.
- Effective communicator capable of collaborating with engineering teams, contractors, and senior stakeholders.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, lean environment with shifting priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on expertise with commercial-scale electrolyser systems including design, assembly, testing, or operation.
- Background in electrochemical processes such as chlor-alkali, redox flow systems, or fuel cells.
- Experience adapting process engineering knowledge from related industries to innovative systems.
- Familiarity with plant-scale mass balance and operational expenditure (OPEX) modeling.
- Exposure to battery recycling or critical minerals processing sectors.
Contract Details
- Engagement type: Contract with possibility for permanent hire based on performance and alignment.
- Work location: Onsite in Singapore.
- Immediate availability is required.
