Job description
Role overview
This permanent Delivery Postie with Driving position is based at the Newtownards Delivery Office, BT23 4AA in Newtownards, Northern Ireland. The role involves delivering mail and parcels across your route and supporting the local community through dependable, customer-focused service.
You will work 35 hours per week over 5 days, Monday to Saturday, with shifts scheduled between 07:40 and 15:20. Operational needs may also require some Sunday working.
Royal Mail is reshaping its future, and this role is part of that journey. The job is physical and requires plenty of walking and outdoor work, but it also offers the chance to stay active while making a direct difference to people in your area.
What the job involves
As a Postie with driving duties, you are expected to safely and securely deliver everything assigned to your route. This includes regular postal items as well as election materials and selected goods such as food products or alcohol, always in line with company standards.
The position is about more than delivery logistics; it is also about being a trusted, familiar presence in the community and helping households and local businesses receive what matters to them.
What we are looking for
- A positive, self-driven person who can work independently.
- Someone who stays organised, arrives on time, and delivers strong customer service.
- A friendly, approachable communicator who enjoys dealing with people.
- Comfort with long periods of walking and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- A genuine connection to the community and pride in doing the job well.
- A full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
Pay and benefits
You will receive a guaranteed hourly pay rate of £13.68, paid monthly and adjusted to reflect your hours worked.
- 22.5 days of annual leave, increasing with service, adjusted proportionally if you work under 37 hours per week.
- Uniform provided at no cost.
- Company pension plan with competitive employer contributions.
- Career development opportunities, including trainee manager pathways and apprenticeship schemes.
- Enhanced support for family life, including maternity pay, paternity leave, adoption leave, and shared parental leave.
- 24/7 wellbeing support for you and your family, with access to physical, mental, financial, and social guidance.
- Discounts on high street shopping, travel, attractions, beauty products, and gym memberships.
- Free stamps at Christmas.
Important notes
For search purposes, roles with 35 to 37 hours per week are listed as full-time, but any role under 37 hours per week is classed as part-time in the employment contract.
You must be able to meet the requirements for secure delivery, including items that may be sensitive or regulated. The employer also asks applicants to keep contact details current, review the document checklist and health-related guidance provided during the application process, and be prepared for an interview if shortlisted.
Royal Mail Group states that it is committed to inclusion and to reflecting the diverse communities it serves. Applications are welcomed from all candidates, with particular encouragement for members of the Armed Forces community, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed with the recruiter if needed during hiring.
