Role overview

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar’s Department of Biological Sciences is recruiting a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow in Doha, Qatar. The appointment begins in August 2026 and is initially set for one year, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years total depending on performance and continued funding.

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar operates alongside other American and European branch campuses within Qatar Foundation’s Education City. The campus follows the admissions standards and English-language curriculum of the main campus in Pittsburgh, USA, which grants all degrees. Education City serves a diverse student population, with many students coming from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. CMUQ’s faculty includes both campus-hired professionals and faculty seconded from the main campus. The campus places its main academic emphasis on undergraduate programs in Business Administration, Biological Sciences, Computer Science, and Information Systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Take the lead on carrying out the experimental work tied to the grant’s goals.
  • Help produce strong, publishable research for high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
  • Share research outcomes at conferences in Qatar and abroad.
  • Support preparation of future grant proposals and related funding efforts.
  • Work with collaborators across institutions on joint research activities.
  • Contribute to the supervision and mentoring of undergraduate researchers.
  • Provide assistance with day-to-day laboratory operations and management.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a closely related discipline.
  • A track record of research output shown through peer-reviewed publications.
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology methods.
  • Well-developed organizational, communication, and interpersonal abilities.
  • Capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a research team.
  • Experience with proteomics and bioinformatics analysis would be an added advantage.
