Role overview

This role is for a Biotechnologist intern focused on gene work in a laboratory production environment. The position involves carrying out gene synthesis and related experimental tasks, maintaining quality and safety standards, recording and reviewing results, and supporting the team in day-to-day production activities.

Key responsibilities

  • Follow departmental rules and procedures to synthesize target genes as required by customers.
  • Carry out laboratory workflows such as PCR, ligation, transformation, bacterial checks, plasmid construction, and quality verification.
  • Maintain accurate records, analyze data, and evaluate experimental outcomes.
  • Work in line with safety regulations and production SOPs while handling experiments independently, including gene synthesis, vector construction, gene mutation, plasmid extraction, sequence analysis, sequencing, PCR/qPCR, reagent preparation, and quality inspection.
  • Report production issues promptly and collaborate with the team to resolve them.
  • Ensure proper handover at the end of the day and provide basic analysis of any incomplete experiment or open issue.
  • Take on additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • A diploma or bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Life Sciences, Bioengineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of molecular biology and cell biology, along with hands-on laboratory experience.
  • Familiarity with common genetic engineering methods such as DNA isolation and manipulation, primer design, plasmid design, PCR, restriction digestion, homologous recombination, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, transformation, plasmid isolation, and sequence analysis is preferred.
  • A motivated attitude, resilience, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Good teamwork and strong spoken and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work 8-hour shifts, 5 days per week, with 2 rest days that may not always be on weekends.
