Job description

Position overview

This full-time postdoctoral role is based in Doha, Qatar, within the Abu-Raddad Lab in the Research division at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar. The work schedule runs Sunday through Thursday, and sponsorship is available. The posting closes on 07/31/2026.

The role focuses on analyzing and interpreting biomedical and behavioral data through advanced mathematical and computational modeling to support research on population dynamics for both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

What you will do

  • Create mathematical models that describe how diseases spread and how interventions affect outcomes.
  • Independently develop hypotheses and carry out detailed data analysis using mathematical modeling across several research initiatives.
  • Build, test, and maintain deterministic, stochastic compartmental, and individual-based models for disease-focused research.
  • Work with principal investigators and multidisciplinary teams to shape study designs and define strong computational approaches that match research goals.
  • Analyze model results and turn findings into reports, visualizations, scientific manuscripts, and contributions to papers and grant proposals.
  • Prepare and publish articles in peer-reviewed journals based on research outcomes.
  • Share findings in internal discussions and at external scientific conferences.
  • Keep clear and accurate records of methods, outputs, and project status.
  • Review literature relevant to assigned studies, stay current with new developments, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Support and guide team members in using tools, methods, and workflows effectively.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Education and experience

The role calls for a Ph.D. in Mathematical Epidemiology, Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, or another closely related quantitative field, along with relevant experience gained after qualification.

Knowledge and skills

Strong expertise is needed in mathematical modeling approaches, including deterministic and stochastic methods, as well as quantitative tools such as differential and integral equations, nonlinear dynamics, probability theory, and stochastic processes. The position also requires advanced scientific computing capability, including programming, numerical analysis, symbolic and logical analysis, Monte Carlo simulation, and computer graphics.

Experience with scientific computing tools such as MATLAB, Mathematica, and Berkeley Madonna, plus statistical software including SPSS and R, is essential. The candidate should have excellent analytical and problem-solving ability, strong attention to detail, solid organizational skills, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines. Proficiency in MS Office applications—Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook—is also expected.
