Role overview
The City of Andalusia is hiring full-time Police Officers for its Police Department in Andalusia, Alabama. This role focuses on frontline patrol work and public safety support, including responding to service calls, enforcing laws and ordinances, preventing incidents through visible patrol, and helping protect people and property.
Key duties
The officer will handle a wide range of policing responsibilities such as responding to dispatcher-assigned calls, including domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, traffic collisions, and similar incidents. The role also involves motor-vehicle patrol across assigned city areas, field interviews, preliminary crime investigations, crime-scene protection, evidence collection, information gathering, coordination with relevant staff, court testimony, report writing, and arrest processing. Additional special assignments may also be given.
Qualifications and job conditions
Applicants should have a high school diploma or an equivalent credential. Alabama Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Commission certification is strongly preferred; candidates who are not APOST certified must pass the required aptitude test. The job requires a valid Alabama driver’s license, the ability to work overtime and outside standard hours, including weekends and holidays, and the ability to renew firearms certification every two years. Some hires may also need to obtain Breath Testing, ACJIS, Doppler Radar, and CPR certifications. Candidates should be comfortable with computer use and familiar with Office 2000, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. All selected applicants must be willing to undergo extensive pre-employment screening, including physical exams, drug testing, and criminal background checks.
Compensation and hiring notes
The annual starting pay is based on experience and certifications. Qualified candidates will be brought on after final certification. The application window stays open until the positions are filled.
